At your location could vary from mine. Each location varies with pay. Not a blanket pay across the nation.

Pick and choose wisely. Every company has it's quirks and just have to decide what works for you.

This isn't a Union vs Non union debate on pay, It really depends on the location when it comes to LTL employers.

As far as UPS Freight is concerned...sure you'd start out making 16.75 on dock and 17.20 while driving until your probationary period is up ..then it's 17.20 dock and 17.70 driving. Something to keep in mind is that with OT after 8, and doing an average of 10.5 to 12 hrs a day... you'd average 20 hr straight time. In 2 years you'd be at 20 hr..and in 3 yrs , $24 hr. By the time you'd hit top pay it'd be 29.15 hr. When you combine your OT with your regular hours..it comes out to be equal or better than most non union ltl. There are 3 slow months for guys on the bottom. Oct, Jan and half of Feb. You'll get plenty of hours when you do drive. Ups doesn't call you in to run 6 hours. You'll average about $1200 week when it's not slow on the bottom. When you hit that 3rd yr you'll average around $1500 wk. And by the time you'd top out you'd avg $1700 -1900 wk. Something to think about. Good luck

Yeah, because if you're gonna work like a dog without a vacation until two years, you'd better get that OT while you're at it! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, but a boy with OT nonetheless.

I can back you up on the last comment you stated. I’m an ABF driver and they provide us with a great living and treat us well and I know OD does the same as I have friends who work for OD. But as being a linehaul driver on extra board yes you may find yourself running nights/days all in a week. I have a set turn run that I run at 4 different times within the week. 2am, 3am, 11pm, and 6pm all in one week :mad:but all in all the company is great and let’s you do your job with no problems and be happy. I do have a question for you though, does OD force anyone to run 6 or have actual runs of 6? Or is the 6th always OPTIONAL?

Depends on your terminal manager. My terminal manager is constantly trying to interpret rules differently and change work rules.

Been awhile since I've been on this thread.

Yes, some terminals require their extraboard drivers to work six days, but not schedule drivers. Last I heard, our Greensboro (NC) and Morristown (TN) terminals require 6 days out of extraboard. Our terminal doesn't do this. Different terminals can have different rules, as Moon_beam stated. You've got your general corporate rules, and then terminal managers do their thing too.
