Traffic, on almost any stretch of interstate or other high-speed road moves in ebbs and flows. It's not fair to say in every one of these situations "They were driving in packs and this is what happens". Traffic will cycle between dense to light every 30 miles or so and there is nothing you can do to avoid being in a "pack" for a time as the normal flow of traffic operating at varying speeds tends to go through cycles of density. This problem is going to continue to happen. Most interstates east of and including I-35 have outgrown their design capacity many years ago.

Also, some states are more reactive to winter weather then pro-active. That, weekend spring break traffic, generally higher traffic densities every year, lots of truckers out there who are in their very first winter driving experience, and a fast-developing winter mix is going to yield this every time. Driving [too] "slow" may have been the original cause. I can't count how many Cameros and other performance cars who couldn't get up even the slightest grades, just in the last 3 weeks.

Yes, if you don't have sufficient traction to get up those MO I-44 hills (no weight or tires that just don't do well on ice), maybe you better park it.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

In bad weather its kind of nice to be lonely out there when its icy. Of course its not necessarily fast trucks spinning out. Running 55 to 65 MPH on solid ice is to fast and will get you into a bad situation.

...just like at Daytona and Talladega. Artificially restrict speeds (electronically or with restricter plates) and it bunches people up jockying for position...elephant races on the highways...and then "the big one" happens and everybody wonders why?

My speed is only limited by my right foot and the gray matter between my ears, the way it should be.

NBC news reported the crash was caused when a Greyhound bus rear-ended a tractor trailer sending 11 passengers to the hospital. That curve where the wreck occurred is a reduced speed curve and I'll bet speed wasn't reduced by Greyhound.

I only saw one Prime that was involved and one that wasn't. I did, however, see a lot of non-decaled trailers and car haulers. Let's at least be honest and not just post BS for the sake of being bias.

SHO-TYME, allniter, Longarm and 5 others Thank this.
