Do you shutdown when the 14 hour clock is up no matter what?

Agreed. 2 hours is an 800 + mile day In a decentlypulling truck. You knew before you started that you had no chance of pulling that one off legally IF you trip planned.

But Six, didn't I read somewheres where you said you had an 800 mile day? How did you do that?

Well, the thing that took me by surprise as that I covered 400 miles in under 5.5 hours. Wasn't expecting it. Didn't plan on it. Was rolling east out of Wyoming with a good tail wind. The company called me, demanding that I shut down, and their company policy of 850 miles in 24 hours. I told them that my elogs says that I can still drive, and screw the company policy. That WAS the company policy before I agreed to your elogs. You're not having it both ways, if my elogs says I can go, I am going to go. The safety person said, "well driver be safe and have a good day."

 

14 hour rule....LOL

how about I decide when I'm tired and need to shut down not some pencil pushing schmuck who has probably never sat day one in a truck..

so, that would be a no I don't shut down until the job is done or I get tired..

the work i do.. i haul cans (intermodal) and im home everyday. sometimes these #### railyards push me over my clock.. so.. do i REALLY want to go over 14 hours? no. do i have to get "CREATIVE" just to get me back to terminal.. YES.
so to answer your question, I dont shutdown! lol. paperlogs FTW.

If I know the customer has parking, yes. I'll take the slap on the wrist. If not, no.

 

David 123abc its a lot more than a slap on the wrist. You'll get shut down for a 10 hour break, plus a several hundred dollar fine. I used to work for Greyhound at Santa Barbara, Ca. back in the mid 80's as a behind the counter person. One of our extra board drivers "forgot" do something with his logbook. Calif. fined him $500 then. As to shutting down before my 14 is up I will. The only way I'll exceed it if I'm stuck in traffic or can't park in a safe and legal place.

 

Do what you have to do to keep the customer happy.

If you're 20 minutes away, go. 2 hours away, trip planning comes into play.

 

Like tall mike says, you shut down when the job is done , or you're too tired to go any further.

 

There is only a fine if you get caught. I have driven over my 14 a couple few times and I am on elogs. Not once have I been fined, let alone been talked to by my company.
