So the new update isn't as simple as plugging in to the dock like normal?

Ok, so I have a 520. I bought an 8 gig class 4 micro SD card. I called RM Customer service and had them remote in to it. They changed the drive letter and started the download for me. It took about an hour to download on an 80mps connection I have from Comcast. It installed very quickly after the download with no errors. The card I bought was under $8 at staples and works fine. Compared to running off the onboard memory I find that only a long distance recalculation takes a bit longer than it should. The only trouble I've had is the speed limits quick changing one time as I came east on 322 from Woodland PA to Duncannon PA. Also the truck icon I use wouldn't stay on I80. It stayed about 15 feet north of the highway and kept trying to get onto all the side roads running along side I80. I think that might have been weather related with the heavy cloud cover from the snow storm.

The updates I really like. The door bell when you come up to a point where you need to make a turn is nice. It could be annoying for some people though. The Junction views are much better. They more closely represent what the road might actually look like than in the previous version. Also, when you come close to an exit you need or a turn that is coming up, the Junction view is now split screen. You can see your progression on half the screen as well as the static junction view on the other.

The best update for me is the arrows point in the intended direction of travel. I like to zoom all the way in and sometimes you couldn't tell which way to go, now you can. I don't remember if the exit numbers were showing on the old maps but on the new ones now you can see the exit numbers on the map as you go by them.

Worst update, until I figure out how it was intended to be used, is searching for a city center. I start typing and I get choices but never get the one I want. Got pissed trying to find what I was looking for the first time I tried.

Still can't see the whole route on any screen that I'm aware of on multi via trips. If anyone has figured out where that option is with the ability to zoom in, would love to know how to do it.

I agree with double yellow. I could do without the animated sliding menus.

Does anyone know if you can download the SD card to a PC and reload it onto a different SD Card? I want to try a 16 gig class 10 and see if the result is any better than what I've experienced with my class 4.

OK...I got a SERIOUS issue with the TND Tablet. Turns out the Truck GPS App doesn't know about Daylight Savings Time. This is just completely unacceptable. How can the RM Software Engineers (and I now use that term loosely) let this slip. The tablet itself has the correct time, but the GPS software does not. Tried resetting unit. Checked for updates. Still showing incorrect time. $500 for this I would expect better. There better be an update to fix this ASAFP (no BS about waiting for a QA release before this is resolved, but a HOTFIX) or else I get rid of this thing, dump RM products altogether and go with another manufacturer. I have been extremely patient and supportive of Rand McNally products, but my patience does have a limit.

    Mark:

There seems to be an issue with the printed RM MC atlas with US 129 in Tenessee and North Carolina that could definitely affect safety. Is this the right place to put that concern? If not, where do I send it to the Rand atlas folks?

OK...time to eat a LITTLE crow...after further personal investigation I may have solved my issue regarding time changes on the TND Tablet. Turns out if you leave the time and date settings on the default values on the tablet, then it could be causing the problem (defaults are Automatic for both date/time and time zone). Automatic settings for date/time and time zone are network provided, but since this tablet does not have built in cellular data capabilities, and my mobile hotspot does not broadcast that information, then it has nothing to go on if time and or time zone changes. Unchecked both those options in Settings on the tablet and entered time and time Zone manually. Will test further if this truly resolves this issue (once I travel to another time zone). It would have been nice if this was explained in a manual or quick setup, but I either did not see it or did not look hard enough.

My apologies for my earlier rant, but I was frustrated.

On a side note, can't the GPS app on the tablet (or the tablet itself, for that matter) get the correct date/time and time zone information from the GPS sats?

OK. Even more research, and this is what I am finding...if Truck GPS app on tablet is slaving its time to the tablets time, then we may have an issue (again, since the time and time zone cannot update automatically on tablet as is). If the Truck GPS gets the information from the GPS sats, no problem (as I think the TND 500 and 700 series does). The only way for the TABLET to get automatic time sync is via NTP (since it cannot get this from cell tower data), and this can only be accomplished by rooting the unit (and voiding warranty).
