In orientation they said they just passed a law that doesn't require you to carry your medical card. Is this true? If it's not true can I carry my long form physical instead?
don't need to carry medical card now?

I haven't heard anything of that but if it's true that's ok I guess but I'd still carry the card & long form anyway

According to the new rules for med record keeping and certification, CMV drivers, whose states are in compliance with the CDLIS MVR mandate, do not. Currently, MA, NH, NV, FL and DC do not. However........we all know that Officer Snuffy out there, may be lacking in keeping up with changes. In order to keep him from going Draconian, I would highly suggest you still carry your card to avoid unnecessary delays or headaches.

Carry it. Always Carry it.

I'll carry mine until it expires. My last DOT physical, the Doctor told me this was the last one I would receive. In the future the Doctor will send the info to the state and it will be attached to your DL in the computer. What does this mean for the driver? The system will fail and he will be cited on the road for the states failure to enter the info into the computer. Most Government employees are complete idiots and borderline retarded. This seems a bit too much for them to handle.
joseph1135 and zoekatya Thank this. -
Carry it. And make sure it's on file at the dmv. It's lovely to get a level 3 done and your license is suspended because they never got a fax with new med card.

A few weeks ago I was pulled over by FHP/DOT, he gave me a level 2 and checked my medical card. I'd say carry it anyway, just to avoid any unnecessary delays

Carry it any way regardless, the self certification process is still not up to speed depending on your state. TN has been backed up and it is always best to keep it with you in case the state loses or messes up or in case they never got the data entered. You can run your MVR and that will let you know if the state has entered you data.
zoekatya, Ducks and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Did you lose your med card? It's best to have both, your med card and long form.
zoekatya Thanks this. -
Make a copy of both long form and card, and keep them in your truck. I used to carry an enclosed clip board and kept everything in there. Log book, copy of medical card, long form, driver license.
zoekatya Thanks this.
