I found a what I think might be a good deal on a used truck. Its a 2001 freightliner columbia, C15 cat 6nz, 70 in condo, 10 speed, 1m miles. He is asking $10,000. What do you guys think? Don't know any history on the truck so I'm a little nervous. Thanks.

If you are looking at this truck and do not know any history then I would get a oil sample and have it analyzed. I would also take it and have a dyno done on it. If you have a local shop that you deal with I would have someone do a thorough inspection done also. Also have the charge air cooler tested to see if it needs replaced.

I do not know what that year truck is worth but a lot of trucks with a million plus miles have about a few more years left before they need rebuilt. With that being said there will be some small items that will need to be repaired or replaced. That is just the fun part of owning a truck.

I know the 6nz cat is a good engine.

Go to rigdig.com and pay $30 bucks and enter the vin number in, its a car fax for big trucks if any thing majorly went wrong with the previous owners it will show,if its been REPORTED OF COURSE,dont lay all your eggs in one basket, ask for maintenence paperwork,a good O/O or company will have records on hand, get a oil sample, check and smell rear end oil for burn smell, check coolant, check brakes, drums, slack adjusters, tires for wear, could indicate wheel alignment needed,or bad king pin, check oil for blowby,me personally i like detroits 60,easier to work on and parts arent as high, check truckpaper and see what that model with mileage is selling for, compare and contrast, does ac/heat work? If not whats wrong and why installing a new ac system can easily run $5 to $7000,how much rubber on tires?what do you plan to do with it,what are the rears? How well was it taken care of,normally unless its been well taken care of YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT SOME MONEY IT,n nothing is wrong with putting money in it,JUST NOT TOO MUCH:biggrin_25521:

Dont be in a rush to buy it,sleep on it make sure its what you want, once you pay for it,WHATEVER IS OBVIOUS OR HIDDEN PROBLEMS IS NOW YOURS ,:biggrin_25513:

    Wish you the best:biggrin_2559:

10,000$... The depreciation on these is nuts. That being said, that seems on the low side to me.

I admit I know nothing of the topic and usually browse these to get an idea of what is and isn't good. But I'd approach with caution and follow, to a T, what the others have said.

Ya, I agree with Vilhiem, that price is a little low. If it does have 1mil miles and no rebuild it could be a good deal if you put in about $8,000 for an inframe rebuild.

Did you mean $8000 or $18000 for an inframe on a c15?

No. Inframe kit is around $3,200. Rest is labor. More if you need a rebuilt head.

If that 6nz is in good running condition with no issues it alone is worth more than $5000. But most older trucks like that are worth more parted out than whole.
