Working out at a gym while on the road?

Some, not all, of the OTR trucking companies do NOT want their drivers handling freight due to the risk of injury and workman's compensation claims.

 

I've been looking into this and from what I've found Anytime Fitness has the most locations across the country and most of those are located in big shopping centers with lots of room for parking.

The one thing I haven't figured out yet is how I can coordinate going to the gym with my HOS. I'm still in school so I think once I hit the road I'll just have to see where I end up for my 10 hour layover or reset and see if there is a gym nearby by looking it up on their website. If I can't drive to the gym because my hours are up or the gym has no decent parking I may get a folding bike to stash in the cab and use that to get to the gym. I've seen a couple of trucks with a bike rack set up behind the cab but that was probably a O/O rig because I doubt I'll be allowed to do that on a company truck.

I've been with anytime fitness for 8+ yrs now, I have used them in about 30 states, I look them up on the website, find where I can get to one on my route, google earth them to see aerial view for parking and if in doubt website has local phone numbers to call and ask an employee... almost always I can find one to get in to! The newer ones have great showers, bring shower shoes and towels as needed since they aren't provided of course.... I always put a note on window that I am in the gym with my cell number, more and more of the malls are putting up no parking signs and will call a tow truck if they think you are camping out for the night, it's unfortunate but these are the times we live in I guess....

As far as HOS, I try to coordinate my gym trip with my 30 minute break, takes more then 30 to work out but at least I'm not trying to find a place when I'll be out of hours...

actually a full size bike fits inside a truck just fine. You'll take there front wheel off, tho.

 

Yeah I figured that would work but I feel more comfortable buying a foldable bike for $300 bucks and leaving that in the truck or locked up outside the gym compared to bringing my mtb that costs $3,000.

 

$3000 mtb is much better bike than $300 folder, i have both. If you want a folder get a Montague Paratrooper for a grand. Good folders cost more than 300 and 16 or 20 inch wheels only go so far. i really really recommend a good used full size... more bang for the buck
