Updated at 12:30 PM PDT on Friday, Mar 13, 2015Traffic backed up for more than 12 miles early Friday on a freeway in the San Fernando Valley after a crash involving a FedEx big rig that smashed through a concrete barrier and rolled onto its side. The FedEx driver suffered minor injuries, according to authorities. The road was closed in the Sun Valley area near Sheldon Street at about 5 a.m. after a series of collisions that began with a utility truck that slammed into a stalled sport utility vehicle. The big rig drivers swerved to avoid the vehicles and crashed through the concrete freeway barrier, according to the California Highway Patrol.FedEx Big Rig Crash The cab and part of the big rig's trailer ended up on the other side of the barrier on the side of the freeway near its split with the 170 Freeway. One lane reopened at about 5:40 a.m. The remaining lanes remained closed during the crash cleanup, which involved a fuel spill, and investigation that continued into Friday afternoon.Packages in will likely need to be removed before the damaged trailer can be pulled upright. It was not immediately clear whether freight was damaged, but a FedEx representative said customers would be notified.Southbound 5 Freeway drivers were advised to take the southbound 170 Freeway to avoid the closure.Southern California Traffic Headaches The CHP initially reported that two FedEx trucks were involved in the crash, but later said only one of the company's vehicles crashed.

It's just so much easier to remove the freight on the dock with a forklift - not on the side of the road.

Oh I could so bang the driver quality pay drum again...but I won't....

I would hate to be a large shipper on FedEx. Low price just doesn't matter if your shipment doesn't arrive ya know?

Kinda wonder why his CSA hasn't tore him up yet......must have it shielded somehow. I know a bulk carrier that has his setup like that to hide his junk from shippers.

What they do best is try to put a good name on complete discourtesy ... they'll cut you off in a heartbeat. Biggest jerks on the road. They like to say we just don't understand what kind of pressure they are under to get the loads to their destination .... P-L-E-A-S-E ........ Give me a freakin' break!

Here's a loook at their CSA:
    http://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/query.as...napshot&query_param=USDOT&query_string=265752

They're so low because they have so many good inspections. But dont let that fool you. They have just about as many good inspections as bad inspections. They just have so many #### POWER UNITS and Drivers.... that CSA record is CLEAN. This is one of the primary reasons as to why CSA should not be public.

Take a closer look at this:
    https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Carrier/265752/BASIC/DrugsAlcohol.aspx

    Unbelievable!

I agree and I work for them for now. Heck these guys will cut you off in our own yard. Last night I had my set lined up for two spaces, everything was going to even be straight ;) I'm out dropping my tail trailer and this jack arse comes whipping into one of the two spaces where I was planning to drop my lead, directly ahead of me. I will add, there were loads of single spots in the same row or other rows he could have pulled into.... To my dismay, instead of using one spot he parks his single right square on the middle of the line separating the TWO spaces. I ask him exactly what that's all about and I get a F you! I drop my dolly and pull out and back my lead in to the spot next to my tail, hook my dolly back up and go to line haul dispatch where Mr. Idiot is still in his truck. Such a hurry he was in........ I tell linehaul about it but did not give a truck number because that's pointless, nothing changes anyway. I saw a driver last week pulling out of our Detroit yard with his back trailer door wide open ;) I've said it before and I'll say it again. Fed Ex Ground has the most discourteous, disrespectful, non-driving morons on the road I've ever had the displeasure to witness.

The only way I can see the time crunch factor being an excuse, and a poor one at that, is if the driver screws around because our runs are set up with MORE than enough time to make them safely without driving liking an idiot. For instance, our Toledo to Pontiac run is given 2 hrs 15 mins, a full 25 minutes MORE than one needs to run it even doing very close to the speed limit ;)

They're not fed-wreaks drivers, they're sub contractors (worked there outta Sac-town for 5 months). Fed-Ex was the worse driving job I ever had, you wear the fed-ex uniform, use the scanner ect, but, you don't work for fed-ex. I quit during Christmas rush, (2013) you don't officially work for fed-ex, but your taking orders from fed-ex. Ain't defending the drivers, (how do you defend wreaks) but, they're under major pressure to deliver on time or else. Don't know how legally fed-ex pulls it off, but they do. Flatbedding now and loving it, gotta agree on the driving habits of fed-wreaks drivers though!!! LOL
