I've never abandoned a truck before but I did quit under dispatch once and took the truck (and the rest of it's load) back to the terminal, which was not far...talking eastern MA here...and told them to shove it. don't regret it and would have done the exact same thing twice. Jerkoffs and game players they were.
Anybody ever just abandon your co. truck?

Self interest where do you get that. I've got nothing to gain or loose by posting my thoughts , and maybe pointing out options you did have other than abandonment
and , again , I never once called your integrity into question. I even posted that you did what you thought was best. I merely pointed out other ways to handle a terribly tough situation. This isn't a pissing contest , and I don't think I have to always be correct , I think it's a drivers job no matter what to return a companies equipment back to them even if I mAke the choice to work elsewhere. You obviously made a very hard attempt to do that. You just ran out of patience , and made the choice to do as you did. I see it as a bad choice. Others don't. No big deal. Lots of things I would do , most folks won't do. That's what makes us human. Sorry to get anyone's feathers ruffled or offend you in any way Hurst. It wasn't ever my intention. If I did I apologize publicly right now. This site is for the exchange of points of view. And in the process maybe give a fellow driver some insight or a different view of things either from research or experience. Be safe TTTD....... -
in 1990 when i was at dart my truck was damaged in a fire and while it was in the shop they flew me around picking up repoed trucks , some were turned in voluntarily and others were not .
the voluntary trucks were no big deal just fly in get a cab and go to the guys house and drive away .
the involuntary ones were always at a towing co. locked behind a fence god only knew what awaited ya ...was usauly pretty gross and or the truck had been stripped or thrashed .
they worst was a kw k100 that the driver had passed away in and had layed in for several days in hot weather in atlanta ga...the truck had been cleaned up before i got there to pick it up and the smell was still unbelievable .
i dont know how ya would ever get that smell out ? -
What...accuse the driver of stealing the truck? -
I never did that, allthough, there were jobs I certainly wanted to. I always made it back, even if I had to pay for the fuel myself. I've quit jobs with no notice, but always had the mindset to return the truck, mostly because, my 4 wheeler was there. When I worked in Green Bay, I knew of a guy, that's all he did, was travel around the country picking up abandoned Schneider trucks. It was a FULL time job, let me tell ya'. Matter of fact, I think there were a couple of guys that did that.
Talked to a guy that was a friend of Schneiders owner. Said if he ever needed a part time job could bring trucks back home.
