See attached ISX TSB's. The problem is different , no connection to aftertreatment system. these engines have boiling coolant issues. The cylinder liners don't have brass shims. You will need an overhaul. Yeah the engine with ESN #79458634 has factory installed old style cylinder liners ( maybe updated later by dealer). The pistons are old style too. May have high oil consumption due to carbon packing on pistons.

We have two of these trucks. It seems they were owned priginally by gordon trucking since they are light blue. This trucks have tons of issues with the dpf and scr def systems. They have never derated or ever left us stranded but the check engine lights are always on. Weve had to replace dosers, an scr, a nox sensor, dpf temp sensor. Cant remember what else.

From my experience working on Cummins..... the EGR coolers fail more, turbo and the VGT actuator fail, and the SCR does fail at times and there is a new updated version that doesn't have the ammonia sensor which requires a jumper harness and a new ecm calibration. I seen a few cracked heads and piston rings, but this issue seems to be more on the CM871 dohc isx, but its happen to the sohc common rail isx also.

I have a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia 125. It has Cummins ISX 15 engine with a Eaton Fuller 10 speed and I got it with 107,000 miles. I have only had to replace the starter. It was under warranty so I didn't have to pay for it. I average 8 to 8.5 mpg. I have put 235,000 miles on the truck. Change the oil every 25,000 miles and always add 1 gallon of Lucas oil. Every 3rd tank of fuel I add 1qt. of Lucas fuel treatment.

    mhyn Thanks this.

Don't put Lucas in it, ugh!

    Do an EGR Tuneup,

And watch your fuel pump. they should be rebuilt every 400,000 miles or there about. They fail and will take out your entire motor. The block will be destroyed. And yes, there have been numerous updates and even a recall on these pumps. They are still failing. If you get a high pressure or any other fuel related warning shut the truck down immediately! Do not drive! Tow to a shop and have the pump removed and inspected.

Everything you want to know about your big red crybaby can be found here... www.Rawze.com

And yes, I own one too.
