I do stop only because I'm still learning how to turn correctly and watch my mirrors so I don't take out light poles...

Several years ago I got pretty burnt out on driving. I Called one of the local CDL schools and asked them if they might be looking for an instructor. Long story short, the job paid 10.00 an hr, 40 hrs a week.
I was making between 1000.00 and 1100.00 a week (long days, lol). So needless to say,..

Pretty sad pay considering how much most of them charge. Seems to me like it could be a lucrative business

Yup. For local drivers (i.e. beverage and LTL)...it's something you need to be able to do (when it's safe to do so).

In my personal vehicle tonight, and a carload of very loud and impatient teens pulled up behind me. Wanted me to turn left on a red light for left turns...

First the driver started waving, motioning to turn. Then the passenger started. Pretty sure a middle finger was in there. And then the 3-4 people in the back seat of this car started to join in. ...arms were flailing everywhere out of the window. I just sat there, waited for the turn light to turn green; smirking all the while knowing they'd have to wait.

    Well... Patience is a virtue.

And not just local drivers need that, I have to deal with rights on red daily since most of my routes take me in and out of malls, shopping centers and the like. (OTR drivers also need it, though perhaps not as much.) Granted, most of my ROR's take place at 3-4am, so there's not much practice with traffic.

In tn you can turn right on red. Lucky if the 4 wheelers even slow down a bit before they turn. 😳. Some of the locals will run straight through a red light. That is why you are seeing red light cameras appearing in tn.

When I went to refresh my CDL at the school I got it at, one of the instructors ended up being a guy I went to that school with. Pretty cool guy. He came off as a hard ### at times but I told the rest of the greenhorns I knew him from when he was cutting his teeth, he was an ok guy. :)

That's fine, I wouldn't probably do the same. But don't mislead him into believing its a law.

    my mega school said no

they lied about a lot of things

this is one of them, its just safer for newbies (i guess) not to make turn on red because they misjudge the speed of oncoming traffic
