Small coolers for food, a coffee thermos, pay phones and $2.50 trucker breakfast. That's all I want to remember about the good ol days.

If your only running 24 hours straight you don't need any road dope. That's just for recreation.

You really think an old school hand like 315 wheel base would run for JB ####. Hell would freeze over before that you silly goose :D.

We had AC back then. Never stayed working for more than 30 days,.. but hey,.. nobody perfect. LOL

Mounted on the roof of the cab, dripped on me all day long, and when it was really hot out I'm not sure if it was the air on my sweaty heady or the luke air from the vent that was cooling me. LOL

As for a fridge,.. I had a beach cooler full of ice, I mean you remember when a bag of ice was $.25 right? Soda and lunch meat for when truck stop food wasnt available. Back then you could get biscuts n gravy plus a coffee for $.99, Maybe 2 eggs, toast and coffee,.. still $.99. Lunch was a burger, fries and fountain drink for $1.50. Dinner was chicken fried steak, steak fries and a cola for $2.29. Now they want $3.99 for a cruddy stale cheese burger that feels like a hockey puck, or $5 for a slice a pizza. $2.99 for a breakfast biscuit,.. meh.

The only thing I dont miss about those days was no cell phones and no GPS. Nothing like standing in line at a row of 7 - 8 pay phones waiting your turn so you can call home or if you were out in the middle of no where and needed directions. Loved the cruddy directions you got from the girl who answered the phone,.. she sent you down a 4 mi road with a 12' bridge. Empty in the middle of Az or NM,.. now try to find a phone and hope you have enough left on your calling card or change to make that long distance call to get your next PU info. "Operator,.. how may I direct your call?" No,.. that I dont miss.

Saw something funny recently. A Pilot north of Salt Lake City has a pay phone when you head back towards the rest room. A young couple early twenties could not believe what they were looking at and had to grab a photo of that ancient technology with there fancy big smart phone ..... lol

Last year my old employer was doing some work for my current employer. Boss really pissed me off and I went to my current employer and said to him, You need a driver? If not, I am out of here. He replied that you are not going anywhere and that was my start into heavy hauling. I started the next day. 4 days later I was moving this, first time with an RGN.

Im just a Driver with better than 3 million miles and Proud of it, Ive pulled doubles, triples, tankers, powder, liquid, food grade, chemical, dry and refrigerated vans, end dumps, belly dumps, and flatbeds. I've been to every state to load and deliver including Alaska and Canada. Yes I'm a Driver and Dam Proud of it.

Back then truck used to cause slip disc's and surgery's were very common, I'm 3rd generation, my son is 4th generation. I knew my grandfather and started riding with him as a wee one, The equipment now is far superior to the old trucks.

I'm so tried of hearing that load of crap about back then, get over it.

    Lets see, back then,

You cheated logbooks as a requirement of the job.
Back then you fingerprinted every load.
Back then driver lived on Benzedrine ( Big White's), methadone ( Mini cross tops), and coffee.
Back then if you complained you were out of work
Back then you could be back-bald (well guess tha has not changed)
Back then you carried multiple drivers license to keep your record clean in your home state
Back then you paid your ticket on the side of the road.
Back then you would have your trailer broken into while waiting to turn into Hunts Point
Back then you would pull over and help another driver, instead of complaining about them

Maybe , just maybe the one who complain that there are no real Truckers only steering wheel holder's or Driver's are the actual problem because of there bad attitude.

A real driver will help another (even the new swift driver) when there having problems, not jmp on is radio and make fun of them. Yes I believe everytime you use the words steering wheel holder's or just Driver's you identify yourself as indeed being the very person your making fun of, It takes a really small person to need to make fun of someone else to make themselves feel important.

Sorry for the Rant, just happens sometmes.

I agree, there was some good stuff, Food tasted better, cheep breakfast special 24 hours, Air pot thermos on the doghouse, drinking hot coffee out of a real porcelain cup while driving. Phone jacks at the tables, sometimes phones as well. Driver ections in Resturants.

So you think the old timers are the reasons for all the laws huh?FMCSA has nothing better to do but make up more laws that aren't working. What crashes we do see and hear about are done by newbies or someone with not awhole lot of exp and other 4wheelers.These old timers are more professional and mature then the drivers we have now.

It got to the point for me, I got tired of sharing the road with way to many bad drivers. Even off road. Finally work in a somewhat controlled environment for an outfit that does not put up with stupid. You can go get your 2 checks.
