He hires idiots then complains about them damaging his trucks. Several of us quit due to lack of work starting in December.

Got ya i understand drivers got to put that food on the table.

but
if a large truck makes a uturn, and the car hits the truck, you blame the truck driver
when is the law the law and not subjected to useless fingerpointing? -
SOMEbody was at fault.
"Useless" (fingerpointing)?
I think it's more like discussing, --- to better understand what happened
regardless of who's fault it was. With an understanding of the cause
perhaps some of us will learn from the mistake(s) made by others and
think real hard before duplicating a potential disaster.
That would be a good thing, ...... no?
spyder7723 and tsavory Thank this. -
My previous employer strictly forbids u-turns in their trucks. They had a driver do one years ago, on a 4-lane, but at the wrong place. He was doing one where he couldn't see very far up the on-coming lanes, as he went into his turn, a car ended up driving under the middle of the trailer. After that, they said no more u-turns. Miss your turn, find a place to turn around. The problem is, every once in a while we had customers that the only way to get to them was pass them, find a u-turn lane, and go back.

Put another way: I have my private pilot's license, should professional air line pilot's be held to my lower standards, or to a higher standard? I can go into a tail spin and shut an entire airport down for a day and it's called an accident, with little to no ramifications. (Just like a normal car driver, pay a small fine and watch your ins rates go up), an airline pilot does that, his career is over. Done. Final. Never getting paid to fly again. Higher standards because he or she is a professional pilot and I'm just an ametuer.
So the real question is, are we professional drivers held to much higher standards than a regular car driver. Or are we really just a bunch of dumb monkeys holding a steering wheel. Personally, I'd rather we have the higher standards than be considered a bunch of dumb monkeys that everyone makes excuses for when we screw up. -
OD load? Out of route! Truck obviously didnt get rear ended so I would just guess the truck driver is at fault. Its a sad thing, a dead father, a traumatized kid, and maybe the end of a drivers career and a lifetime of guilt!
Either driver could have prevented this! truck driver could have found a parking lot or quiet intersection to get turned around (or maybe not missed his turn to begin with?). Driver of the car could have slowed down and been a little more cautious when he saw a truck almost stopped in the hammer lane, with a red flag and left blinker on (I assume). A bunch of smart monkeys would not keep repeating the same mistakes! -
Tsavory I understand your point&you obviously know the area well...but as I posted it may be time consuming&inconvenient but there's usually a better choice than a uturn.....
tsavory Thanks this. -
but an 18yr old can rent a 24foot uhaul, pulling a car on a trailer and drive clear across country in two or three days, and no laws are broken
but if we dont stop for 10 hours after 11 hrs of driving, we are dangerous outlaws
like you said, we are either professionals, who have been driving a million miles or so, or we are dupes being led to mindless factory jobs on wheels, where we punch a clock to start and stop, and monitored like lab ratsAfterShock Thanks this. -
