The goal is not to end up in a location where you have to sit for loads.
I've been here a little over 3 months and only took one load that paid less than $1.40 all miles and that was when I came out of Florida when I went to visit family. However most of my loads have been short side (miles)
Been to the Northeast (no New England) 3 times now (4 counting today) and always managed to leave for no less than $1.43 all miles and that load went from Nj to Ga near Atlanta.

I did 1941 miles last week at $2.21 all miles
You cannot do that out west or in the south..

I'd rather do 2000 miles a week at $2 all miles than 3000 miles a week at $1.50 all miles but that's just me.

and wtf WHY am I even saying this lol, don't listen to me. Short loads suck.. the long $1 mile freight is better! yeah do that!

When you guys were picking out trucks how did that work? I know you can pick the brand new ones but how does getting a used truck work? Find a truck from say truck paper or do they have a list of what and where you can get one?

Freightwipper, we are on the same page. I set 2 goals on a daily basis. 1, is total revenue for the day and 2, is gross revenue per mile for the day. The time spent at the load board is where the money is made, all the rest is just follow thru.
Your brain can make you a lot of money, more money than brawn. Unless you are a center in the NFL. LOL.

freightwipper, Drifter42 and TennMan Thank this.

    true that

also revenue after fuel costs per day.
45000k load through west Virginia for example makes a huge difference vs a light load on flats.

and what market you're going into.
I'll do $1.50 all miles into Illinois but it takes me $2.50 or $2.20 above 700 miles to go east of Ohio unless I know I'll get an okay rate right away coming out.
I got sucked into NY for $3.19 all miles but the goal now is to play connect the dots to find a way out not for cheap lol.

I've found it's hopeless to get anything even just OKAY out of New England. The furthest I gone is NY, NJ and PA. I refuse to go into New England unless a load pays enough for me to deadhead out. Freight coming out of New England nearly as bad as Florida.
