Has anyone been been searched on this forum? I have a friend who'd like to keep his second amendment rights and doesn't want to give up his God given right to self defense. Should he find another line of work? I'm also wondering what the penalty for being caught is. Jail? Seems trying to explain it during the next job interview would be bad enough.
He makes deliveries so not there all day. But they make it clear they have the right to search you and your vehicle. Although he keeps I'd deeply concealed.

The question was specifically about being searched on the oil rig leased property. Do they actually carry out searches as they claim they have the right to? -
They can't tear the truck apart searching it. For the most part, anywhere you go where the property is controlled by a private corporation, the search will at MOST be a visual, "plain sight" sort of search. They can't open doors or remove dash panels or anything else like that. Even if they DO find "contraband", the WORST they can do is ask you to leave, tell you to never come back (ban you from the property), and notify your employer. You cannot be arrested unless you refuse to leave when asked, because you really aren't breaking any LAWS. Now if the property is managed by the GOVERNMENT, well then all bets are off. In that case, they can search anywhere & everywhere in as much detail as they deem necessary, and if they find "contraband" you CAN be arrested.
So really it depends upon who's oil rig it is, who owns the land it is on, and who is in charge of security there. If "the government" is the answer to ANY of those questions, you probably shouldn't go there with a prohibited item. If not, then keep it hidden and don't talk about what you've got and you'll probably never have any problems. -
2nd amendment rights do not trump private property rights. Anyone who has a CHL in Texas should already be well aware of this. As well as being aware of the potential consequences.

The 10,000 posts aside and the fact that you say it is legal....then go ask the highest guy up the ladder at the oil rig company and go from there?
Whether it is legal or not, which I am on the side that doesn't think it is legal, it still is against company rules. More than likely the company that owns the truck has a rule against it, the shipper more than likely has the same thoughts, the oil rig company more than likely has a rule against it, the insurance company that insures said truck more than likely has an exclusion against firearms in the truck. While I believe in your friends second amendment rights when he is at his house, his personal vehicle, etc...and any establishment that allows for it, in this case they asked you not too. If your friend Johnny's company loses the account b/c he gets caught with a firearm on the premise....Johnny may not care but very little good will come from carrying a firearm and a quite a few bad things can happen. It's not like 30,000 other oil field drivers aren't looking for jobs right now, I am willing to bet most would be willing to put aside their convictions in the 2nd amendment for a good job at the moment.
Why doesn't Johnny become an Armored Truck driver or something more fitting with his beliefs?Handog, 77smartin and joseph1135 Thank this. -

God does not give rights. Society does. And it is up to society to maintain the protection of those rights. All of them.91B20H8, truckerlife74, joseph1135 and 2 others Thank this.
