I have about 30 trucks and fitted them with Drivecam a few years ago.
Drivers hated it at first (about 2 months) but now could not care less.
In fact I probably get one or two clips per month per truck and usually because of some rough road.
Had drivers with some bad habits and don't care attitude that this showed up.
They all adapted and we never got rid of anyone because of Drivcam highlighted issues.
The upside for drivers is that managers can evaluate on facts and not on perceptions that are influenced by social skills or brown-nosing ability.
The device itself is poor in that the visual quality is really bad , especially in low light.
The scoring on the Drivecam dashboard where points apply to drivers should be ignored. You need to have a mature experienced driver making calls on incidents that are recorded.
I fully appreciate the privacy invasion issues but I assure you most of what you hear is total BS and they are not spying devices like bug's and hidden cameras.
The biggest issue I see it daft company policies where drivers are subject to arbotory rules that are just plain stupid.
The Drivecam is the messenger but the company policies and inexperienced interpreters are the root issue.
In my fleet drivers could not care less as we don't spy on them , don't have the ability to even if we wanted.
The biggest thing I see that makes the difference is that we don't have Nazi/kinder-garden policies.

In no way was I attacking you personally. However those videos though silly show drivers not making "mistakes" but doing ridiculous inexcusable things.
For example in one a driver was sideways towards oncoming traffic stopped in front of a toll booth backing up. That driver should be fire on the spot or as the company might view it... needs a camera in his truck.
Maybe Swift thinks drivers will pay more attention if they know a camera is looking at them? I don't know but whatever the reason I don't like it and it shouldn't come to that.
We already have HOS, being tracked by GPS, E-logs etc etc now cameras? What's next?
If a driver can't be trusted to do their job and needs a camera watching them then that driver doesn't need a job.
Not only that but if I was a driver and they told me they're putting a camera in my truck I'd tell them to shove it or I quit.
Drivers with experience and have a good track record shouldn't tolerate this at all especially. -
so says the newbie experienced driver

This whole "well if you have nothing to hide" deal is BS.
So should we put cameras everywhere, in every aspect of life and be cool with it if "we've got nothing to hide"?
Should the government be spying on people and taking away our rights because it's their "right to over see" their country and our choice to live and work here?
It's about being intruded upon to the highest extent that isn't right. It's a principal or at least that's way I feel about it.ethos, Mr.X and spectacle13 Thank this. -
No need for anyone to comment as I know all reading this are the exception.freightwipper Thanks this. -
