I am thinking about buying a truck. I am wondering if it is better to buy used from a dealer so i can get a warranty. I went to the international dealer and he said you can get 200k engine and driveline warranty for $6k on a 2008. I am wondering if that is a better move than buying used from a small used truck lot. It just a catastrophic failure could take me down.

Keep your $6,000 and self warranty will be the least expensive option . Do not buy any 2008-2010 trucks those are the worst years. Dealer lots are full of them and they can't give them away. If you have to ask why I don't think you're ready to do this.

Agreed ^^^^. But if your stubborn. Buy 2002 or older. Buy used. Most warranties are scams.

good luck. And read more TTR sections. Use the search function. Look up EGR, DPF, and SCR, then avoid like plague.

Any input on companies other than Landstar that will allow equipment that age? Seems like every company now wants 2008-newer (7 years). I understand the emissions issue in California, but the company where I currently work doesn't run California yet still requires 7 years or newer equipment.

I was thinking a warranty from a freightliner dealership for a used freightliner we be good in the whole country. I didn't think it would be aftermarket.

I have around 17 k. 8 k down plus 2 k for plates and 2290. Leaves me 7 k to start and I have open around 13 k on credit cards, which I really don't want to use at 14% interest.

I'm just worried if something catastrophic occurs a month into starting and I don't have enough to cover it or I do and I'm completely stretched.

I know they make a killing on warranties. I would be amazed if they pay 40% of what they collect when you add them all up. But it's the same as car insurance. I insure my 5 year old car fully, so I don't lose 8000 if it gets totaled by a dear. I know from an actuarial point of view the insurance company is making good money on the pool of policies, but I just want to cover my but. Granted I could live with a 2500 car. I just worry about catastrophic repair costing $20,000.
