If drivers and wheel holders keep driving they way they do there will always be "those Companies" around to hire on those idiots that use the roadways as their own raceways. For the life of me i am dumbfounded that UPS and Fedex are able to keep drivers because of the way they drive and speed everywhere. I have yet to pass a UPS and Fedex truck on any highway at any speed limit. Oh yeah, and tour buses.

I would add that UPS and FED Ex both have major commitments to deliver some mail next day at all cost. I order products from both Asia and from amazon.com quite frequently, and I appreciated their (UPS, Fed Ex and DHL) delivery time lines. Truly amazing tracking goods coming out of Asia packaged and posted in the afternoon there; flown to Cincinnati and brought to me (by truckers) in Texas in 3.5 days from order! Those guys have to put the pedal to the medal. AimHigh

No. There will always be enough people out there desperate (i.e. Criminal record, poor driving history, poor work history, etc.) to take ANY job that bottom feeder companies will always have a captive audience.

Keep in mind...this is not a field that the average "tech savvy" person is going to be into, so I don't see social media playing much...if any part...in these companies being able to recruit drivers.

So to you ups and fedex are the only truckers that have major commitments to deliver their payload and have every right to brake the laws, because you need stuff from them? You believe that its ok to do 75 through a 45 MPH workzone because they are the only truckers that have a major commitment to deliver their payload.
I have a major commitment to my customers as well, they need their stuff just like the rest of the people. I drive 62 everywhere and guess what? it gets there on time and when they want it, most times early. Speed does not make up for lost time, you can't turn back time no matter how fast you go. Speed can only get you in trouble. I love watching idiots speed, thinking they're doing something, then 100 miles down the road i pull up behind them at a red light off an exit.
Speeding does nothing but give every trucker a bad rap, reckless driving is a crime. Doesn't make it right because you think its great when you get your package from asia.

That's not at all what aimhigh said. We all have major commitments to our customers from the time we pick the load to the time we drop it. Period.

You're right, that doesn't mean speeding is okay, but it seems like to me if you have seen fedex or other drivers speed that excessively, we aren't the ones you need to be complaining to.

However, I have an extremely difficult time believing your tale of going 75 in a 45. That's 30mph over the limit. On most roads where the speed limit is 45, that means there's just enough obstacles on the road (curves, blind roads, hills, ect) that going much faster than 55 will almost certainly mean an accident. I'm not at all calling you a liar, but just saying I have a difficult time believing that portion of your story.

Now, you want to say 90 in a 65? Sure. That I'll go for.

If you've seriously ever seen someone speeding that excessively, you've got 3 choices. Ignore it, call the company or call a LEO.

I putter along at 60mph myself. And I don't think I've ever seen any driver going faster than 80. That's still excessive, but when the speed limit is 75 that's not terrible. I don't think I've ever seen any major carrier like FedEx or ups going faster than 70 unless it's downhill.

You need to step back and re read what i posted, Number 1. Number 2, you think going 90 in a 55 is more believable than doing 75 in a posted work zone marked 45? Ok, if that's what you want to believe. You really just trying to post something for the sake of argument doesn't hold much water with that. Because you know i have never seen a work zone that had a couple miles of straight road before. Try a little reading comprehension before you reply to some ones post, plus i really don't think aimhigh needs you to come to bat for him, i'm pretty sure he doesn't need you to make his point look even dumber.

I think you need to do some re-reading yourself...

I never said 90 in a 55. Go check that again.

Im also not intentionally defending or coming to bat for anyone. Just stating that I felt you misread or misunderstood what was originally said.

That being said, I did miss your stating it was through a work zone. I myself still haven't seen anyone brazen enough to do that, but it doesn't mean it hasn't happened; but you originally stated that they speed everywhere. So I still stand by what I said.

We both can agree that's a safety hazard. It puts that driver, you, and all others surrounding them at risk. Seems like the best bet would be to call the highway patrol.

Speeding, regardless of location, is illegal. I don't like it when other drivers do it but I keep to myself about it and smirk when I see them pulled over by a LEO a few miles later. Just because it's express doesn't make it right.

I don't know where you've been driver, but this week it seems like tensions have been pretty high for all of the drivers I've met and talked to. Just concerned for a fellow driver, but if you're feeling the same you might step away from the cab and forum for a bit. Nothing in this world is worth getting riled up over. You know?

The company I'm training with is very paranoid about people posting negative comments on social media websites. They treat us pretty decently. Albeit they lie about when and how often we get to drive on the range, but all in all they are okay. But once a week they bring us into a safety meeting where they listen to our complaints and say they will do everything in their power to remedy them. And for the most part, they do. They are kind of new and they deserve a lot of credit for what they have accomplished thus far. So yes, I do agree social media and the Internet will make it easier to expose crooked companies and make it hard to find decent, and not desperate people to work for them.
