I'm getting around 2400 miles per week on average, and feel like I'm doing a lot of sitting... but maybe that's above average for a company driver, and dry van? I worked for one company for 4 months and they seemed to have me running fast / hard with barely enough time to stop for a piss... 2 months with my current company, and there are a lot of live loads / unloads and sitting.

I've talked to my dispatcher, and planner - and let them know I just want to run and gun... open ended deliveries / pickups without set appointments, so I can get there as fast as possible, get it done and get onto the next load. It's not working out that way.

If it was in my power, I'd want 3000+ per week - every week.

What company (if any) might give me the best chance of seeing that kind of mileage?
I'm strictly OTR - like long runs - no touch - 90% drop/hook - dry van - out of NE Ohio and prefer the midwest (Ohio and anywhere North/West/South of there... I hate PA, WV, and VA hills).

    I average just over 2400 miles a week over 52 weeks ... but then I don't work for 10-11 weeks a year

First thing you need to understand it is within you power ... the second, well it appears that you really don't want to run 3000 miles week.

Everybody wants 3000 miles a week ... but they don't want to run 3000 miles a week. You're looking for an easy 3000 to be handed to you ... you're going to have to work for it.

I average 1,200 miles a week, Mon thru Fri, no overnights, but I haul cars so it is comparing apples to grapefruit. The little bit of time I have done freight, it is hard to get what you are looking for, most companies today are trying to reduce the length of haul because the average driver today does not want to run wide open 3,000 miles a week. You may be at the wrong company, your company may be set up for shorter hauls with lots of live loads and appointments, to find what you want you may need to seek a different company. I am no expert on freight but what I have seen, the refer companies tend to have the longest average length of haul so that may be where you want to go.

Now, with all that said, miles mean nothing to me, never have, I look at the final result of my week, meaning did I make enough to be happy? I don't care if I run a small circle between two or three states or run clear across the country, as long as the compensation was worth the effort. What I am trying to say, it isn't all about the miles, so what if you sit and have to play the appointment game as long as you are making money. Now, if you are not making money then you need to do something different. Most of my career, company driver and owner, have been percentage of the load or flat rate, so I always look for the best paying loads with the lowest expenses and shortest miles, why beat the snot out of my truck running long miles when I can make as much as the guys hauling cars out to California and be home for supper every night? Work smarter not harder.

Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for.

dry van, no hazmat, home every weekend and average since first of the year is 3098/wk. typical week is 5 1/2 to 6 days out and a reset to 48hrs home. best week was 3455 shortest week 2749. those are just this years numbers. last year was a little shorter but the year average last year was 2940. I changed companies in july last year from 3 years with my training company to hopefully the company I can retire from now if things stay consistent. considering their latest turnover number is only 10% I can assume they will.

it takes really good time management, log management and trip planning and that's before you get the company that can give it to you lol

then you've gotta get the company that can give it to you and will.

mine does and is pretty consistent week to week. the irony of it is, that their pay package is structured such that you don't have to chase miles to make money. the icing on the cake is the miles but I never worry about the short weeks.

2250 a week, every week. It's a 5 day a week gig though, no loading or unloading.

I was getting 2700/week doing a dedicated with walmart through werner. I ran my ### off, but was lucky to have about 25% pre loads, and 100% drops.

Yeah, as a greenhorn I don't make a lot per mile... so the more miles, the more pay obviously. But I'm happier when I'm on the road and driving, than I am sitting. I figure, as long as I'm out here and away from home (2-3 weeks)... I'm not being paid to sit around waiting for loads, shippers / receivers... and every hour I'm not rollin' is wasted time and money. The only time I want to sit is for my 34 hour reset, because I ran my butt off, not sat on my butt. I can sit at home and not get paid.

As a company driver in a van, with only 6 months of OTR, it's not likely I'm going to get paid what I want to make unless I'm running. I have the option of going home every weekend - but I don't make money sitting on the couch. Now, after I've been doing this for at least a few years (I hope to retire in 12 years) I'll probably have a whole different opinion / attitude about putting in the miles. But at this point, I just wanna keep movin'.

    Thanks for the feedback!

1800-2200 a week in the truck. Work 6 days a week. Then another 750 in the car commuting. Home every night.
