sometimes by touch or just looking at it you can tell if its broken or dislocated, but the only sure fire way is either an x-ray, or an MRI. Sometimes the X ray doesn't even tell them, and they have to do an MRI.
and I didn't know this either, in some instances it is possible to walk on a broken foot. So that doesn't make me feel too good either
Thinking I may have broke my foot.

I know it a couple yrs ago I got hurt while on the job, went to outpaients they xrayed and thought and I should have and MRI as well,I got hit by a trailer door while unloading hides. The door was caught on the hides and once it cleared it hit me in the head.Thank god only 5 stitchesBut I still went to work the next day and only did 1 to 2 rounds day rather then 3 for a couple weeks.

I wouldn't say anything prior to a doctors visit. Most companies will make you jump through hoops in order to be returned to duty, and if the same injury occurs in the future you might be denied benefits...

...and good riddance too! -
I hope it is just a sprain...
If it is broken there are some bones in the foot they won't even put a cast on it.
They will just tell you to stay off your feet for so many weeks.
Hopefully you sprained it and can get by with it wrapped up with an ace bandage..
Good luck driver!loose_leafs Thanks this. -
Will find out something within he hour

I don't think a boot can keep you from driving. A friend of mine jacked up his knee a couple years ago and he just made sure he never went anywhere alone. One of us would load and unload his trailer and he would drive. He had a big brace on his left leg but I guess he managed pushing the clutch in.
It may not be the most pleasant but if you're determined and have bills to pay you'll figure something out.loose_leafs Thanks this. -

Well, after looking at the xrays, the doctor said "well, at least you picked a good bone to break."
I broke the base of my far right metatarsal, that connects to the cuboid bone.
In plain English, that is the first far right long bone extending above the round rocky ones in the middle.
So I am in the big boot while walking for 4 weeks minumum, but the doc says in writing that i can take it off to drive. The only way to injure that bone again is to twist the ankle again the same way as before.
So I consider myself extremely lucky that I can return to work Wednesday, with a minor to moderate annoyance of the boot and that ace bandage.
Not all foot injuries are the same. And if it wasn't for all the bruising last night, I wouldn't have even went to the doctor, because I wasn't even in that much pain or limping that bad. Ididn't hear or feel the "pop" or "snap" that most people do either when the break something.
The doc told me the bone was already beginning to heal on its own, but to insure it heals correctly, the boot is the best option.
Those little round rock shaped bones between your ankle and you toes (cuneiform) are the ones you really do not want to break.
So if you ever have even the slightest inclination that you may have wrecked or broken something, don't put it off. Being in the hospital on the road is never a pleasant experience, for anyone involved.albert l, Long FLD, bullhaulerswife and 2 others Thank this.
