Started at 50 here, hauling building materials on a flatbed, paid by the hour and a local gig to boot.

I teamed with PAM for just over a year, and started a month ago with R&L Carriers, an LTL doing P&D so I'm bumping docks and humping freight 10 hours a day. It's whipping me back into shape pretty quickly. I'll be 58 on my birthday this summer but I'm enjoying the labor.

I should add that I was happy at PAM, although the pay was weak, but moved back home to care for my aging mother. Home nights and weekends isn't a bad gig and no longer keeping logs is nice.

A good company, yes. Starting pay just under $20/hr. Fifty hour weeks not uncommon. I can tell you that P&D is as different from OTR as night to day. I'm a bit spoiled by PAM's new equipment, and to that R&L doesn't come close. B ut the benefit of paid holidays, home nights and weekends and being paid for every hour worked is nice and makes up for the older equipment. There is an awesome comraderie amongst the drivers and everyone is eager to help this newbie. Hope this helps!

I start at Mid Florida Tech on the 29th. I'll be 59 in Sept. I worked in construction (concrete) for 35 years and am collecting a pension. Time to get out and do want I wanted to do when I was 18. I'm not going to fool myself, I know it won't be easy, but I've faced adversity before and dealt with it. There isn't any such thing as an easy job. It's what you make of it.
