I'm a writer on various trucker topics and I'm working on an article about what truckers wish auto drivers knew about sharing the road with trucks. What do they do that makes you crazy or makes your job harder?
Thanks
What do you wish 4-wheelers knew?

1. Driving with high beams on when approaching close.
2. Hugging the trailer, because they don't have the kahunas to pass.
3. Their inability to drive in snow/winter conditions.HalpinUout Thanks this. -
How to use a merge ramp onto an interstate highway or other expressway. They often don't understand the idea of matching traffic speed and merging into a gap at the same speed as traffic. Then nobody on the road needs to slow down or speed up. They also often try to force their way in, expecting people in the right lane to scoot over. And while vehicles often do scoot over, it is a courtesy, and isn't required, and often isn't even possible, due to traffic on our left.

If they knew how to drive that would be a good start. I'd love for part of new driver training to include a ride along in a big truck. Probably never happen though ..

1. Stay away from my truck.
2. Don't tailgate me five feet from my d.o.t bumper, if a tire blows the Schrapnel will cause damage to you
3. Some some respect to us, we make your lifestyle possible, without us you are nothing.
4. Don't cut me off because you're about to miss the hwy exit and set off my radar alarms which then has safety and my dm calling me nonstop.
5. If I'm parked in a parking lot, why park near my truck?
6. Stop texting your girlfriends while driving
7. Don't look at us weird in the truck stop shopping areas, you need us more than we need you -
HalpinUout, SHO-TYME, skellr and 2 others Thank this.

NO TEXTING
RESPECT US
GIVE US SOME SPACE
NO CUTTING IN FRONT OF OUR BUMPERS
DON"T TURN TO CROSSOVERS ON PASSING LANES (I almost hit one when I tried to pass a truck when a car 40 ft ahead of me hard brake and turn to crossover.) -
If they knew what a car looks like when it gets sandwiched between two trucks, they might think twice about cutting us off
-
Wish they knew how long it actually takes us to stop.
HalpinUout, cnsper, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this. -
To the writer, if you really want to know, get on the road and experience life for yourself. This subject can and often does cross over to other truckers, like when they pass you on the right and then expect you to let them in by just cutting you off, no turn signals no nothing.
