Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

WARNING...some of my pending statements may be offensive or slightly insulting to some...read at your own risk.

Ya' know...it's about time for a Snackbar rant...and not about the company...I haven't been up in the N/E with Poly other than a quick in and out of PA to deliver a repowered load. This backhaul (if you can call it that) went from Sparks, NV to Dover DE...good miles...miles I know most Creaffer drivers would like to see (on a single load). I chose to run 80 to IL then 74 to Indy then 70 to the PA pike to Breezewood, then to Baltimore, up 95 to DE then down to the customer...Ok, I get PA's high prices for the toll...they've been higher than the majority of other toll roads for as long as I've been trucking...but my mouth dropped when I crossed the JFK bridge there at the scales in MD....Cheese and Rice...Mother flogger...Holy mother of pearl...the bridge is less than a 1/2 mile long...and it's $48...for that, you'd expect the roads would be smooth as glass and service trucks rolling up and down the highway dropping flower pedals beneath our tires....or at least a peck on the cheek and a pat on the butt when they get done...POTENTIALLY OFFENSIVE PART HERE ------> I didn't even get a little jiggle or a reach around...just wham-bam-thank ya' Sam...how do O/O's run up here and make any profit...what, are freight rates that high that they can afford these *bleeping* high tolls? Great moogly googly.

 

Crazy tolls all over north east....... farkin nuts......

Yeah, I know...I'm out of practice...guess I'm getting old...I can remember that when it was $15 (I think...I am old...my memory is failing too) at least I didn't go over the George...I might have passed out from sticker shock....still $48 for the JFK, that calc's out to $144 a mile.

 

Tolls are a cost of doing business. If I book a load that requires toll roads I make sure the rate to the truck will cover the cost.

 

Headed to GP from Joisey...Friday delivery. Truck is overdue for PM, got a rock chip (don't know if they fix chips or replace the whole windshield) and my hubometer went nuts on the way between Sparks and Dover. It was within a dozen miles of my trucks odometer, now it's almost 400 miles short. And Armyguy...you may have missed Tony...I called to ask about loaners and dealing with the hub difference on the paperwork...I got his replacement's voice mail so he may be training with Jerry for a while...not sure...or else he got fed up with us and retired too.

 

anyone know if u can park at the walmart store in palestine tx near the dc?

 

Parking indicates leaving the vehicle unattended. I goto any Walmart truck fits in and park in outer white lined spaces or near there docks.

 

Not sure about the Wally, but there is a small truck stop on the d/c's side of town with 25 or 30 parking spots and it even has showers and a hot grill/deli. There are also a few places to eat within walking distance of it if the deli/grill doesn't have what you're hungry for.

 

Another successful day for my truck's visit to the shop. Night shift said it had a wheel seal leak when it was getting it's service, only it wasn't visible to both myself and day shift...and they were able to get my windshield repaired instead of replacing it. Which is good news since this one doesn't leak during the worst rain imaginable.

I got my load delivered today on schedule. I was given an opportunity to deliver using one of the older daycabs....holy crap...I forgot how small daycabs are, and with the ones Poly has are short hood Internationals, so you're sitting next to the back part of the engine and the steer axle is right under your feet....man they ride rough...but it made it easy to deliver because my customer had me in a dock that I had to blind side into...but in a daycab...is there really a 'blind side'? Although seeing the nose of the trailer out of the rear window out of the corner of your eye was a bit distracting...glad I don't drive one for a living.
