Leaves driver stranded penniless and steals a months pay

So whatever happened to good ol personal responsibility? It's amazing how people can bash a company but say nothing about the op's poor decision making. It seems tons of stuff was left out, and to have 2 decades of driving expierence and knowing how companies operate. Especially the ones based in Illinois. I can only say you reap what you sow.

 

I am sure that a similar situation occurred years ago, I never heard of any. This only demonstrates how low trucking has become in terms of about everything that surrounds relationships between employers and employees. The average trucking company doesn't give a second thought to the welfare of their employees and on the other side, the employees see no point in being "loyal".

Drivers did have some protection in days gone by, but not now. Say what you want to about unions, when unions were strong, this type of crap did not go on.

 

• To clarify..... for some of you @me myself and I and a few others. I originally went to work for an owner/op as he was in florida and I could get back home more often. I have my 76yr old Mother who lives with me. It was a culmination. Tore my right calf muscle twice in less than a month in late Sept 2014. Was off 2 months in a cast to heal. Went to work for a company out of Villa park IL who ran loads to Florida every week.....couldn't get enough miles in to make a decent paycheck $300- $600 after taxes (only one was $600)...and no Florida freight just TN OH NC AL......the owner of that company had issues with trusting female drivers, which I didn't find out till after I started there.... so you had to prove yourself first...ok....but in order to do that you actually have to get loads to do so. I was there 2 months and only got 2 Florida loads, I was hired with the understanding that I was a west coast runner and would be out 2-3 weeks and home the next. So I switched to the owner /op.... so your hobo scenario was incorrect. It's more of a statement on how drivers are recruited lied to and taken advantage of than it is the drivers fault. Much about the company isn't made known until after you get there and are commited, to find out the actual inner working of said company. A company can work with you or against you...just as drivers can make or break a company the opposite is true as well.

 

So I guess you want the companies to manage how it's drivers spend their money. So when they tear up equipment. They can be sent off to the Marriott and await their first class airfare home.

 

Really dude?! So before the feds broke the mafia ran teamsters there was no fly by night small companies? how about you share some of what you're smoking with the rest of us.

not to mention you're statement completely excuses the op of any personal responsibility. The guy goes two months without a pay check and thinks things are kosher. And nearly three decades into his carrer he can't even pay for a bus ticket home. that's not something one bad company did to him. That's something a life time of bad decisions did to him.

I don't want to start a fight with you or anybody else on this forum, so I won't comment on your response. But ill give you an advice. Get a credit card. Dont use it, just keep it in your wallet for emergencies. Problem solved.

 

It's the don't use it part that most people can't seem to understand.
