I hate being hassled by the DOT as much as anyone but really think it would be great if they did a 72 hour blitz in every state, every week. The duck taped and bubble gummed trucks are out in full force this week.
What a difference a week makes...

I still saw them out here on the West coast last week!!

Maybe if the DOT did their job every day instead of just 72 hours a year we would actually see a change. -
Yeah agreed. They will claim they can't afford the staff but if they were pulling in rattle traps and writing tickets non-stop 24 hours a day they could actually be turning a profit.
truckon Thanks this. -
Who wants to get under a ratty old junker and try to do their job?mhyn Thanks this. -
the problem is the definition of what their job is, and what drivers think their job is. their job is not about removing violators, it is about meeting the quota of inspections that is required to keep the pay check coming in. The 72 hour blitz is a show for the general stupid public, to say hey, keep paying those taxes to keep us employed, look we do care about your safety.
KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
The stated reason for the 72 hr blitz is to gather data, so they can compare the condition of the trucks from year to year.
Money has ABSOLUTELY no part in the motivation. Just ask the politicians..... -
Geesh and i always thought if they put every truck out of service and wrote up every truck old or new for every little thing that theyd put all trucking companies and owner operators out of business? Hence they or you would both be out of a job?So they cant stop all the trucks all the time? DuHh lol
So MAKE SURE YOU PAY THOSE ROAD TO USAGE TAXES 2 keep them highwayz Looking Good, NOW YALL HEer! -
unloader Thanks this.

Yeah meanwhile near Acoma NM my driver gets insp. and written up because he wants the rubber sleeve on my electric/air lines to be an inch longer AND he wants the lic. plate on my new trailer moved UP two inches. WTF Truck is the 2010 that is in my avatar and the trailer is a 2015 one month old!
