Is it just me , or do others have to actually "make a sign" to hold up for an oblivious driver to read when you pull up beside them and hit the air horn to get their attention because their cb radio isn't on and they are staring a hole in their windshield ??

I have to do this once or twice a week , and I save it for truly safety sensitive situations, not just "a marker light is blinking".

I actually have three that I keep because they are the ones that keep coming up over and over again. CHECK PIG TAIL.. NO LIGHTS. FLAT TIRE. NO BRAKE LIGHTS

Today I had to make a new one. I eased past a flat bed hauling onions and noticed his rear strap had fallen off of the last two skids. I attempted contact on the cb... NADA. I roll up beside him and gesture "there's a problem" by motioning towards his trailer.... return to the stare at the windshield and ignore.

Now , had this not been such a big safety issue, I would have shaken my head and went about my business but I pulled off the next exit, made my quick sign with a big Sharpie... STOP!! STRAP OFF !! eased back onto the highway and pulled alongside and blasted the genius with the air horn so he could read the sign I had taped to the passenger window.

I understand the peace of not listening to the garbage and chatter on the cb. Sometimes you just have to turn it LOW or OFF for just a few minutes to get out of idiot range, and then turn your communication tool back on. I'm not trying to drive his truck. I'm not nitpicking his ABS light is on. Small infractions like that are HIS business and his responsibility to his license. I only attempt to bring their attention to major issues that they haven't discovered due to inattention or lack of a proper pretrip (brake lights).

This does get really old... and it just gets worse. If it cranks , DRAG IT down the road. I really love the ones that have no trailer lights AT ALL and know it... but the 4ways should cover it for the next 300 miles. Sheesh!

I think the best one was the driver in Alabama I did this for that never did stop, even after I let him know that he was dragging a brake chamber up the highway in a shower of sparks. Keep on truckin' Stare a hole in that windshield.

    Is it just me ?

Same problem here, nothing new. Going home Thurs. night, East on the 10 on the AZ side about the 48mm started to smell diesel. Smell got stronger as I went on. At the 55mm I got on the radio and asked if anyone else could smell it. Someone came back and said yes.

Another couple miles up the road I come up on a Danny Herman truck, he jumped into the hammer to pass another truck and I followed. I started to get something on my windshield and noticed when he moved back to the right lane, he was making tracks with his trailer tires. The smell of diesel was really strong at this point.

Pull up next to him and show him my mic. He just looks at me and hold up his hands like he doesn't have a radio.

So I go on my way thinking he will figure it out when he runs out of fuel in the middle of the desert and it's 105 deg.

I have no more patience or sympathy for these new jackwads that come into this industry.
    Nuff said!

i dont put any effort into policing other drivers or companies for safety violations,.
its very extreme making signs and taping them to your windows. maybe you need a vacation or a life.
if your equipment has a problem there are many motorists who will get on the phone and report you to the law.
just love the guys who pull out of our main terminal in the morning with one headlight .
i always got my cb on in case there is a traffic jam up ahead and do a walk around when i unload 2 to 4 times a day

If there is no answer to the cb or to gestures. I put in a quick call to the state police. Safety is the number one concern out here.
