If we don't police our own, then the DOT will.

which would you rather have point out your errors?

Maybe you have a point. Or, quite possibly, by IGNORING the safety issue such as 50# sacks or entire pallets of onions falling onto the interstate, YOU by your own admission are part of the problem in the industry. "I'LL JUST TAKE CARE OF ME".

I stated that I wasn't trying to drive other folks trucks and only did this in safety sensitive situations when they didn't respond to radio contact. I also said that I pulled SAFELY to the ramp to make the sign and merged back into traffic to inform the space cadet of his impending disaster at the next rough bridge abutment or sharp curve.

Now that I think about it , I possibly DO need a vacation. A vacation front knot heads, crap for brains , self righteous, self serving, dimwitted morons that would be so unaware of their surroundings as to not know of their conditions , or so uncaring such as yourself , ( by your own admission ) as to not want to HELP a fellow trucker become aware of their problem.

By not attempting to make them aware... you are aiding and abetting whatever havoc ensues afterward.

Had a flat trailer tire in Chicago at 5am this winter, couldn't see it in the mirror at all. Thanks to another driver that got a hold of me on the cb. Jumped of the next exit abd found a parking lot.
Ended up being a being worse then just the tire. But if the STP would have stopped me I definitely would have had a tow bill.

    the problem is.

a lot of people pull us over FOR NOTHING. and that gets old.

i appreciate people telling me there's something wrong. but when there's not. which happens more then when there is.

WELL. i still stop. but 4 times out of 5. i have no idea what they're pointing about.

it's basically another stupid joke people like to play.

The problem with the specific load the OP is talking about, an onion load, is the driver assuredly was either not knowledgeable enough to handle the type of load or was flat out reckless. I'd guarantee he didn't have v-boards on it and wasn't doing routine load checks if it got to that point where a strap fell off. Nothing you could do to help that driver, it had been a lost cause for some time.

It drives me nuts when I see poorly secured flatbed loads because there's a million and a half things that can go wrong in your day, but load securement is really the one thing that is in your power. People are lazy and stupid. Such is life.

YES driver, YES it IS JUST YOU..>!!

I call out to no one anymore, I did many years ago, but one day, driving up north from NJ to MA, I was trying in vain mind you to call out to a team (or at the very least the driver, the passenger could have been just a rider) and tell him of a smoking trailer brake on the right rear.

The driver flipped me off, AND then they BOTH laughed at me..!!

and I said to myself back then, "self, help warn no one no more"

I think that was all of about 15 years ago.

I stood by my "self conversation" since then.

So I NEED NO SIGN, so yes driver, it's JUST YOU.

If there are idiots that are behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler and they think they have all the experience they need or know everything, then let'em go, and YOU WILL live longer and happier.
