So after reading Joe's thread, I applied to Lessors Inc. and spoke with a recruiter. Unfortunately, they don't hire out of Houston, only Dallas in Texas. I don't meet the experience requirement for my second choice, South East Carriers (I applied anyway). I put in applications with Tri-Hi, TWT, and Freymiller this weekend, so we'll see what happens in the next couple of days.

Does anyone know of companies that hire out of Houston and run a lot of west coast freight? Reefer or dry van. I have just under 2 years experience and doubles/triples and tank endorsements, TWIC and passport, but no hazmat. Perfectly clean license and no points and all that stuff.

Ideally, I would like long runs, mostly out west. Quality of equipment and little micromanagement are the main concerns. I don't really care about hometime but would like to not be stuck in the northeast. I spent most my first year there and I don't mind doing it on occasion but that's just not really my scene.

    I appreciate the help.

You should really look into tankers your in a prime area especially if you get hazmat.

Balkan runs west, not sure how good they are but new equipment. Holland Enterprises/Great Plains may hire out of Houston.

Never heard of Balkan, I will look them up. I did apply at Holland, but never heard back. I should follow up. The Lessors thing really disappointed me b/c after reading every post in your thread, I think it would be a perfect fit. The address thing is an annoyance, b/c I don't actually live in Houston or anywhere for that matter. I just use my parents' address there since I got rid of my apartment a year ago so I guess I could technically live anywhere.

Where do you actually live?? Because I can help you if you don't actually love in Houston. Like where do you stay and we can try and finagle something.

My license is TX, but I usually take hometime in Houston, Chicago, or Lexington, KY or I just get motels wherever.

Change your license to Chicago. Or Dallas. Or Idaho. If you don't need to stay in Houston and home can be wherever you want, then don't let it hold you back.

Does you know if the actual address on the license matters? I don't really care if I ever get to Houston, and I can probably find a way to get an official Dallas address, if needed.

The problem is that it says Houston and if they said no, you must have said you stayed there. Send me a PM and I'll get with them in the morning and see if we can't work something out.
