Seriously though let us all know how it goes with telling the dot that its your truck and you can modify it however you want.

And how it goes in court defending those actions. Edge products couldn't find the right lawyers to get them out of paying $500,000 to the epa. Guess they should have called you first!

Here is the EPA's website concerning enforcement; http://www2.epa.gov/enforcement/air-enforcement#engines
    I have pasted the whole page. Here is the language of the particular section dealing with removed devices;
    • Defeat devices. It is a violation of the CAA to manufacture, sell, or install a part for a motor vehicle that bypasses, defeats, or renders inoperative any emission control device. For example, computer software that alters diesel fuel injection timing is a defeat device. Defeat devices, which are often sold to enhance engine performance, work by disabling a vehicle's emission controls, causing air pollution. As a result of EPA enforcement, some of the largest manufacturers of defeat devices have agreed to pay penalties and stop the sale of defeat devices.

    • Tampering. The CAA prohibits anyone from tampering with an emission control device on a motor vehicle by removing it or making it inoperable prior to or after the sale or delivery to the buyer. A vehicle's emission control system is designed to limit emissions of harmful pollutants from vehicles or engines. EPA works with manufacturers to ensure that they design their components with tamper-proofing, addresses trade groups to educate mechanics about the importance of maintaining the emission control systems, and prosecutes cases where significant or imminent harm is occurring.
To suggest otherwise, and that truckers shouldn't listen to those armchair attorneys who warn you will be fined is foolish!

Thanks for posting that, you have proved my point. Notice it is a violation in the defeat device section for manufacturer's, to manufacture, sell, or install, this would include any shop that is doing business as such. It does not say anything about you doing it yourself.

Tampering as you notice involves the wording of sale or delivery to the buyer

I could right a law that it is illegal for one to take a crap between the hours of 19:00 - 21:00 and put all kind of fancy other words around it that make you believe that it is illegal to take a crap. But in reality it is only illegal to take a crap between the hours of 19:00 - 21:00.

    Do you understand that now?

And by the way this is a scaled back version of the real law pertaining to the issue that everybody thinks the big bad EPA will come an issue you a huge fine for working on your own property and modifying it as you see fit. The reason they have to right the law towards the manufacturer and shops is to tell somebody that they can't do as they seem fit with their property.... well I will just let that one lie for now.

You do what you want, if you like to pay $140K for a piece of equipment that only has an average life cycle of 500K that may work for you. The numbers show that if managed right it would only cost you about $124 per month more than the old stuff. My struggle is that our great and wonderful government comes up with an agenda and decides that we all are idiots and they force feed their agenda down the rest of our throats. So if we find a loophole that can be utilized to our advantage, you bet we will.

Make sure you don't take that crap between 19:00-21:00 tonight. LOL Have fun with that one yall.

Good point. A few years ago some of us asked for proof of CARB issuing tickets to out of state trucking companies for not being in compliance with their state regulation and none has ever been provided.

CARB can't make you pull over, but if CHP directs you into a CARB check you're supposed to comply. Search Chris Governo, he had some funny vids on Facebook when CARB was trying to pull him into an inspection.

I was inspected in California this week and it never came up.

But I did get a lecture about what is considered on-duty time.

    Track That Truck
    23 hrs ·

We are long overdue with a sincere thank you to Craig LeClaire from Microblue.

Craig has been our strongest supporter through the thick and thin of building and ultimately repairing our truck. More than anyone else involved in this project, Craig keeps in constant contact with us and genuinely remains interested in the success of our project. He has never let more than a month pass without calling or texting us about our truck’s performance. One day he gave us a phone number to a mechanic in Iowa who was interested in our truck’s performance. We gave him a call and were pleasantly surprised at the mechanic’s knowledge, enthusiasm and humbleness. That mechanic was Terry from Terry’s Truck and Trailer…and the rest, they, say is history.

Craig has spent countless hours researching diesel engine performance post Microblue. Craig and Terry continue working together in fine-tuning our ECM. We have tried 3 different timing settings and will soon start changing fuel mapping as we search for optimum MPG in our truck. Craig firmly believes that our truck has not met it’s potential. Craig is a shining star as we live the “dream” of owning our own truck. Thank you for all of your efforts and your friendship,

The Copperhead drivers, Jeff and Kathy

On a related note: We would like you to check out (and “LIKE”) Craig’s new MicroBlue Trucking Facebook page.
Future updates, information and thoughts about our truck will be on Craig’s MicroBlue Trucking Facebook page:

(We do not plan any further posts on “Track That Truck” however will leave this page up for a resource)
