If someone ran 2800 miles at just $1.25 they'd have between $1300-$1400 after expenses.
You can still make money out west and have more freedom vs being a company driver but the difference isn't as vast as say living on the east side of the country with better rates.

I complain about $1.20-$1.30 stuff but hey most fleases pay around that and people still make it even with a dispatcher and etc.
When you run for a lot higher out east you get spoiled or at least I know I do lol.
I'll run circles in the Northeast endlessly because I refuse to leave for less than $1.40 :confused2:

Okay let me rephrase that, it's hard to get out without taking a beating.

Here's a list of BEST rates currently up through Monday:

    TX-TN $0.94
    TX-IL $0.95 - Laredo load for $1.17 but that's way down there
    TX-KY $1.09
    TX-IN $1.22 - from Freeport
    TX-WI $1.04
    TX-MO $1.22
    TX-OH $1.06

No loads to the other Midwest states. Good rates to OK though but then you're stuck in OK

    OK-TN $1.22
    OK-IL $1.09
    OK-KY no loads
    OK-IN $1.25
    OK-WI 1.32
    OK-MO $1.29
    OK-OH $1.40 (best I've ever seen)
    OK-MI $1.33
    OK-IA $1.40

Yeah you could get out but not at appealing rates.
With even a little deadhead and being in the right area you might pull off $1.30 something all miles out of OK.
Currently based on ALL the loads that's the best you can do.
That's the reason why I never went to those areas.. it's always cheap coming out.
I guess you can run regional and do well there until something good pops out to get you out. That's what I do in the Northeast whenever I get sucked into that black hole lol.

a load popped up going from NY to SC for $1.85
If you're patient even in crap areas something will come up eventually.
By patient I don't mean sitting lol.

that's the key to this choice board... Got to exercise a little bit of patience because you don't want to jump to the first so called good love you see and bucket to get something else might come along that might even be better than that

After a while you learn what is a "good rate" from and to a certain area.
For example if I get stuck in the Northeast I'll blow time doing regional until something pops out that can get me out for $1.40+ all miles.
Once I see I can pull it off I take off and don't look back lol.
Multiple times I got stuck for 10-14 days running the Northeast regional (no New England) because I refuse to leave for less than $1.40.
Eventually I always hit the numbers.. sometimes it takes a bit.

Last time I got lucky and got out for over $2 to NC but included a correcter WV load and WV sucks but hey money doesn't come easy.
I'm in Pittsburgh tonight and I'll be right back here in two days again lol.

Be careful with the cell service you select. National coverage is critical if you become and IC. I recommend Verizon. 99.9% reliable. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish.
