It's up to the individual.....dedicated=more predictable pay checks. Regional means one week you make $1200 and the next $600....ask a driver on dedicated what they think.

    Totally false!
The amount you make is NOT totally up to you!
You are subject ONLY to what your dispatch gives you, while at the same time, you are subject to Hours of Service rules that put a limit on how, when, and how much you can run.
All the most brilliant and diligent "trip planning" and "self discipline" that exists isn't going to change any of the above.
Mix all this together with a measely .30 CPM to maybe .43 CPM (whilst working upwards of 100 hours a week) and you get a very, very low paying job for sure.
Don't listen to the same, few, Mega Trucking company flag-wavers; these jobs (meaning all the large trucking companies) are nothing more than modern day sweatshops.
Avoid them all at all costs!

Yup, 100 hours a week. listen to this guy he had some wisdom. What do you consider "very low paying job for sure"?

And modern day sweatshops don't apply if you have the a/c blowing

I did four years at Schneider and still have a few friends desperately clinging on with the Costco account in Dallas.

    No thanks

You can call me a flag waver all you want but reality is it's a respectable living. It is not for everyone and sometimes can be frustrating. Schneider has kept us busy and pay is steady. I've been averaging $4800 a month since starting and that's not including Bonuses. Tell me another job you can make 60K a year starting with limited training? I hear people talk trash all the time but none have come up with something better.

Just sit back and enjoy the chatter from the ones who always seems like that have a better solutions but then again those are the same folks who posting a lot in don't work for this company they will screw you over section. If you are happy then your are fine

Read this whole thread lol. I just got my CDL last week. Not sure whether to go with May Trucking or Schneider. May is closer to home than the Schneider terminal. Not sure I want to travel all the way to Fontana for 3 weeks but if training is only a week in a truck and then you solo out..then by all means might do that. I heard May Trucking train for 10 days or more. Not sure about that though. Depends on the trucks too. May apparently have some automatics available. Schneider uses 10 speeds still. I do like the sound of dedicated though. Something May doesn't do. They just have the 11 western or 48 refrigerated. Any advice?

I've looked at other companies but these are the only two making the most sense right now being new in the truck driving business. I don't want to do local work yet without getting a years worth OTR.

Go to a truck stop...talk to May drivers and Schneider Drivers. Softail has a thread on here. He runs western 11 for Schneider.....I think it's My Journey with Orange. He updates daily!

I did run into a May trucker during my training at the trucking school. She was very nice and seemed happy. We did have a Schneider trucker stop by our school but only to talk to one of the classmates.. their trucks looked very worn though compared to May. I am also interested in driving an auto. May are getting almost 90 autos in the coming months. Not sure if Schneider even give them out to solo drivers?
