If Schneider changes the fuel discount they won't be able to justify charging customers the fuel surcharges that they are charging. Technically we aren't supposed to be making money off of fuel surcharges if we are operating in an ethical manner. My fuel costs have always been very close to the fuel surcharges that we are getting under their fuel program.

If you guys have found a loophole around the Schneider fuel program it would probably be advisable to keep a lid on it before too many people start abusing it. Next thing you know Schneider will pull the fuel surcharge way down to the level of fuel discount you guys are referring to.

If you think about it if you run an efficient business you're better off with higher fuel prices because the customer is going to have to pay the surcharge anyways and if you're more efficient than the next guy your profit margins are going to be higher with the higher fuel prices/surcharges. People need to be careful what they are doing on here. Next thing you know some people will start accusing other drivers of posting too much information on the forums and "ruining" the choice program in the process.

I thought the fuel surcharge is negotiated based on some national standard. I'm sure Schneider does not have to report actual cost back to the customer. If we find lower cost and run an efficient truck that should be to our benefit.
If we invest money to save fuel, that should be our business.

Whatever resource is being used fuel surcharges are still a negotiated rate between the parties. I've had loads in poor freight markets that had absolutely no fuel surcharge, probably because the shipper was in position to make that demand.

Plus like I said before, on loads where I've gotten a fuel surcharge it's usually right around the actual fuel costs under Schneider's fuel program, so I'm sure that the discounts they are giving us match up to the surcharge fairly well.

    I saved $109.30 on 271.32 gallons..(no transaction fee)
So figuring in what I would have saved with SNI on the same amount of gallons bought in the same areas it comes out to $47.36..with the transaction fee.

$61.94 extra in my pocket..might not seem like a lot but it adds up.

Fuel surcharge calculated by SNI does not follow the National standard.
They base it on their trucks.

Oh no. That is significant. Your looking at over $3,000 per year. Nice.

Exactly, so take advantage of it while you can because eventually Schneider will squeeze this loophole out of existence.

Customers have no idea what fuel costs except for what the national average is, and they really don't care.

They are going to go for the best rate and service they can get. There is nothing unethical about us getting the most we can get and lowering our expenses as much as we can. That's business.

Schneider does not guarantee nor have to give a fuel discount which is why we don't get the full discount. They only say we get 100% of billed fuel surcharge which is different than fuel discount.

They give us a portion of discount then profit off the rest.

My understanding fuel surcharge and fuel discounts is 2 diffrent things. SNI is making a killing off the fuel discounts. When I had my own authority, SNI was trying to get me to sign up for their fuel card.
