And imagine what it would be like if speed limiters are required to be set at 65mph. You get inspected in CA where the limit is already 55 and get a ticket for your speed limiter being set above 65 ....

Or CA will require limiters to be set at 55 ... make their own rules and apply them to out of state trucks. CARB has already set that example and it's held up against all opposition.

LMAO you are in dream land. Rebellion died with the Boston tea party and the civil war. You will do as you are told or you won't truck.

Idiot cars run it up to 65 as much as trucks do.

Talking about the 4 lane here....IME, the trucks are against the limiter all the time and the problem comes when you try to pass him when he loses steam on a hill. Get to the top of the hill and you're not past him yet and you won't get past him because now he's against the limiter again.

But why doesn't he take his foot out? Simple. Because if he slows to let you in, then the 5 trucks that are tailgating him him are all screwed up now and they will all jump into the left lane and he'll have to slow down to let all of them in. At least one Ontario judge has said that drivers have a responsibility to be courteous to other drivers. If I'm in the right lane, to whom do I have a responsibility? You, the truck that is trying to pass, or the 5 guys behind me?

My truck is governed and it does sucks. In regards to not getting caught if the law was ever passed in the US, just locking out the ECM won't help. If it were a law all local and state police would have a field day on speeding tickets. The Ontario DOT are now using radar gun's to catch the trucks that are not complying with the 105 speed limiter law.

I thought state troopers were used to limit your speed.

Nope. Impractical. A judge on one of the many court challenges said the cops can't catch everyone.

If you read the truck regs and restriction they have in Europe their rules are headed for the US,,it's the same with round abouts , all over Europe so US highway engineers want them here, There was a day when the US was great because we we different than Europe,,
The private carriers assoc has for years been trying to get increases in gross weights, other such as ATA members have 90% of there fleets set at 65MPH and want all trucks set the same, Big mega carriers want to establish rules for their competition (small carriers)
It is understandable in some cases because there are a lot of wild unsafe drivers driving trucks,,the few screw it up for the rest,

Why is truck speed a problem in the first place? To save fuel? Because slower=safer, 100% of the time? Why is there such talk about governing all trucks when lately many states have been joining the 80 mph club? It's just another example of attempting to fit every different operation into one category and one set of regulations for all, which in real life doesn't work.
Governing trucks only takes away a tool in the drivers toolbox. Yes some will drive it way too fast if allowed, that's why we have cops, isn't it? Why regulate everyone to the lowest common denominator? I hate the idea of being ticketed for "you didn't speed. But you could speed. You have to pay $395 now".

Rather than a speed limiter law, why not make a national posted truck speed limit, and to go along with that, make the fine very high if you get caught. Say for Ontario's 65 mph law, for every 1 over 65 its 1,000. Go 70, you pay 5,000.

It's not the states that want this. The megas are lobbying the FMCSA the same way the ON and QC megas lobbied the MTO. They want their trucks at 65 but they don't want to lose drivers or customers because of it.
