If they were charging what they should for 25T then they might not be trying to run those little rigs. But to each his own I suppose.

I spread my driveway gravel with mine, but then I have a remote control for the traps, so I can control the flow of the gravel while I am dropping.

I don't know how anyone is making any money in a hopper right now, Ive been running in 24 states, and I am averaging around 1.10 per mile to the truck. That's completely unacceptable. Ive been hauling just about anything you can put in a trailer, and still cant make it work. There is absolutely nothing left for repairs, and the truck is paid for. Ive been sitting here at home for a while, waiting for it to get better...but it isn't. Im thinking that finding another niche to be able to stay in business. Ive been in the hopper business for 18 years (on and off) and the only thing you can do when rates get this cheap is to either sit or find a different trailer to pull, I seriously don't know how these hopper fleets buy the big fancy trucks and hire someone to drive it, and have enough to pay for insurance, license, and the truck and trailer payment.

Grain market was hit hard this season, due to the frac boys coming in and cutting the rates so bad. It has started to overflow into the other sectors as well. A lot of nice equipment has been on the auction block this year. I saw a lot of that equipment last summer when we were hauling frac sand. We bailed when it started getting sketchy, and have had the hoppers parked every since January.

Very true...it seemed as though every oil field guy jumped into grain, feed ingredients and fert about the 20th of March...all at the same time.
