    I'm a recent grad and looking for a company to get my training at. Originally I thought Prime or Melton. My problem is however that Swift is the only company I've found so far that will guarantee me hometime for my brothers wedding. I just talked to a recruiter and on paper they aren't so bad. The training pay is hourly which is completely different from anything I've found but whatever, this is what I'm left with.

    I'm curious what to expect from the training pay, the recruiter told me 450-550 a week. Is this accurate?
    Also, I'm curious what kind of miles to expect. During training and solo?

    Any other input or advice you could give me would be great, I might be starting next week if we can get my employment verification done that quickly.

    Also, after training do you have to run teams or can you run solo? I heard of PAM forcing new drivers to run teams for six months after training.

    Just because he said it, doesn't mean it will actually happen. Just my two cents.

    You live in Indiana, which is HUGE for almost every trucking company. And Melton and Prime not promising you that means they are just being honest with you. Swift is not.

    I thought the same thing. As soon as I mentioned the dates for the wedding the swift recruiter offered to put it in writing for me though, I didn't even have to ask for it in writing. It was offered. Made me feel a little better.
    Then again, I could just be very naive ha

    I have been here going on 5 years, and only once that I can remember I have not been home on the date requested, and then only about 1 day late. Since you are in Indiana no problem getting home with all of the freight we have in that area and also a terminal. As far as pay, your recruiter is pretty close. Your pay is hourly. You are paid the minimum wage of the state that your terminal is in for your on duty time. You receive an xtra $1 per hour for all of your driving time so if you drive 50 hours per week which if you have a good mentor it is not that hard. A lot will depend on if you are solo at that time of the wedding. If you are still on a mentors truck then it could get dicey. Once you are done training and off the mentors truck you are solo. No more team. As far as miles, that will depend on you mostly. If you DM knows that you are willing to run and you get the job done then the miles can be there. It is all in your hands for the most part. Please do not listen to the naysayers that have never worked here.

    I won't be working there unless I have it in writing. If it's in writing and they pull something like that I'd likely quit and find another carrier. At that point as long as I don't abandon their truck nothing can go on my DAC, correct?

    blsqueak - thanks for the info. I know many talk a lot about Swift. If I end up there I know I'll have fun with the CB Rambos.
    As far as the training period, if I can get into orientation on the third I should finish mid-August which would be two weeks before the wedding. I've got clean records, MVR & Criminal, so the recruiter said it shouldn't take long to process me.

    When is your brother's wedding? No offense but trucking doesn't wait for weddings. Maybe you can go work a temp job until the wedding and then hook on to a company
