Yeah Blair take comfort in the fact there is always someone facing a bigger breakdown disaster than you. I know it ain't much but that's what I used to do. I remember when I first got started. A thousand here, two thousand there, fifteen hundred here almost felt like every other week it was something else. Was getting thousanded to death. Seems like the end of the world. A buddy of mine and me used to joke how it felt great if something only cost $500 instead of the usual thousandings lol. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It's not an oncoming train lol just keep your cool and hang in there.

I would only replace all injectors if they are all failing. A new harness you can do yourself, it'll take 3 beers! The injector you cam do yourself too, I was amazed at how simple it is on the N14. That would probably be a 5 beer job depending on how many times you have to jump down for tools. Definitely have a new Jake brake gasket handy if the old one rips coming off (had to wait 3 hours on it since we didn't order it when the shop called in on the injector). Best way is to have the injectors bench tested (according to David from Fleet Air) to be sure they're at the correct resistance.
The Sterling got a package deal (buy 5 get 1 free or something like that) and I regret doing that because it's never idled the same since. My thought at the time was replace them all. Though I looked back and over 300k miles the #6 injector has been replaced 3x.
I'll trade them for 6 beersblairandgretchen and double yellow Thank this. -
You will get good advice on here from the experienced O/O. They saved me many times.
Good Luckblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I also don't believe all injectors are failing, harness problem is likely
Have you run a good dose of cleaner? Not wanting to start a fight about the best way to clean injectors, everyone has their favorite. I had some injector problems and used some Hot Shot Secret(pricey) and it really smoothed things out. I know KR is not a fan of additives but injectors get dirty and sticky and cleaner works and is cheaper than replacing, that said injector nozzles wear out and don't spray right and the only fix is to replace. On the good side the new injectors will go back in if you rebuild saving money on the rebuild.Grijon, Ringo1 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Spoke to Blair on Friday and we discussed his injector issues after he went to Cummins. By the way it was great talking with you again, we'll defiantly do a cup of coffee or dinner if time permits when we cross paths again.
I agree in part with what the Old Man is saying, the truck is 15 years old a million miles. If the injector harness is original, which it probably is...it's time for a change if the miss is sporadic But lets not forget it's a 15 year old truck with a million miles on it. Being an ex-fleet truck, fleets tend to fix what's wrong at the moment and nothing more. Good chance most of the injectors are original equipment and if they test weak then it's time to replace. I still say it was a good call to R&R the injectors and harness and all work completed by Cummins. Blair is still money ahead with his initial investment of a truck for under 20K.blairandgretchen and TruckDuo Thank this. -
whats a 6 pack and a harness cost?

I imagine Blair only drinks imports so probably on the pricey side. Dunno about the harness.blairandgretchen, Terry270 and Big_D409 Thank this.
