Will This Hurt Tyson Foods Drivers

Someone must have whispered the "U" word and they quickly pulled anchor. Either that, or the supply of illegals dried up

 

Won't hurt Tyson like article says they have several plants in the area. Only people hurt are those losing jobs and truckers who now have to wait longer to get loaded. Good luck trying to boycott Tyson as many things as they've got their hands in.

 

Now you've got 400 people looking for what little jobs there are in a small town.

 

My friend Ray works at kb transportation who hauls for Tyson that picks up meat every day from Denison,iowa.This came as a total shock to everyone.Dispatch found out from another driver who found out from his girlfriend.kb has 26 drivers that hauls meat from Denison and takes it to the Tyson plant in Dakota City.Theres been talk for quite some time that Denison was closing but they changed their mind and put 40 million into the plant to fix it up.The day they closed is the day the employees knew.So now kb is trying to figure out what to do with all the local drivers.Theres talk that some will have to go OTR or find work elsewhere.Ill know more later on today.There's the Farmland plant in Denison some will apply there but they can only hire so many ppl.The tryson in Dakota city will be getting rid of 6 shag drivers and a few in the PBX shop.All the tram trailers Ray said are already sold and will be going to Mexico.Tram trailers is what the drivers hauled from Denison loaded with swinging meat.So this closing has affected a lot more then just the employees at the plant.

 

Sucks to hear, my dedicated run each week takes me through this region and I've talked to many reefer drivers in day cabs. The whole region is thriving and the ones hurt the most will be the factory workers at the closed plant. This won't affect Tyson drivers one iota, they aren't decreasing production at all. They are just processing beef in other regions.

 

At this piticular plant there are no Tyson drivers just local kb drivers picking up swinging meat.I did that for 2 yrs.All the trailers at that plant are tram trailers going to Tyson in Dakota City.DC built another kill floor so they could close the Denison plant but like I said that was changed at one time and Denison was going to remain open.From what im hearing jobs in the DC plant will be eliminated because no one is buying beef.But that's just a rumor right now,who knows what the future holds.

 

You realize the employment department will be pushing. "Trucker" jobs as an alternative employment opportunity.

 

Well here's the scoop with kb that hauled for Tyson in Denison.KB picked up the last of the loads last night,got rid of 22 drivers kept 4,Ray is one of the 4.He will be starting work a 10 pm taking 2 loads to Council Bluffs getting paid salary and all the drivers will be getting a 4 week severance pkg from Livestock exchange because they paid the drivers.
