It's gone down hill. Way down the hill.
The program is flooded with contractors and freight capacity is down along with the rates.

Well they did a horrible job of adding freight then.

You could always try getting your own authority and working those load boards. That'll be the best rates possible out if any situation. I'm looking into that option and have found if I can pick up a new trailer for $335/month leased. I'm just waiting to hear back from my insurance agent next week to see how much insurance will cost. Good luck out there

That's actually my goal. I was thinking of going to a company like Mercer or Great Wide that uses brokers, so that I could learn and develop relationships then after a while strike out on my own.

I seen several loads from San Antonio to Tennessee, $.73/mile. Who in their right mind would pull that?

It seems to be weighted more towards folks who want to run certain regions. I agree it would be nice to be able to use outside brokers in light freight zones.

The flood of inexperienced ICs is what has brought it down IMO. Especially in the Midwest where there's so many ICs anymore I see more than company trucks.

But freight in general is pretty much a regional deal anymore due to the volume that is put on rail. Unless you pull something other than a box, your not going to find great rates going from one region to another.

I'm sure if you don't keep the truck they will. You can take it somewhere else if you like.
