Reading on other boards that a lot of the CWF long solo Linehaul runs are going to be cut down...

Lots of changes to come... Sure will be interesting

Any time you have this type of a change at the top, everybody gets nervous as hell. And with good reason! However, I'd be surprised if it will negatively affect the drivers. It will eventually affect them of course, but it just might be more positive than negative.
Management, OTOH, may well be sweating bullets, and for a good reason. The higher up you go in a company, the more your job is at risk when there is a corporate change over.
If I was a driver working for Conway, I would not be particularly concerned, I'd just sit back and see what happens. It is going to be interesting. . .

and it's both interesting and informative that they phrased it that way.

having worked for American Freightways when it was bought out by FeEx, I can tell you the outcomes for the employees probably won't be positive. They mentioned several times how much money they plan on dropping to the bottom line from the Conway operation. My guess is that the office staff in the local centers will have the most to loose on the front end (if anyone remembers what happened to them in the Yellow / Roadway merger), then the operations staff, then the drivers.

looks a lot like bad juju to me

Thank you. I have tried to tell my drivers this. I get that anytime companies get bought, people get nervous. I would be far more nervous if we were bought by a trucking company. They are a logistics company. Their equipment footprint is small. It's mostly broker equipment. What they did was buy a North American infrastructure to dovetail with their operations. Upper management needs to look over their shoulders, drivers should be ok for the foreseeable future.

well, Upnorth and Don, what does the following phrase mean to you?

    • XPO expects to increase annual operating profit from the acquired operations by $170 million to $210 million through cost savings and operational improvements executed over the next two years
after working in management in the LTL world for 20 years, the meaning is real clear to me. But, I could be wrong.......not trying to start no stuff, just a friendly debate

We are extremely top heavy with management and lots of overlap in our system. Will people lose their jobs? Sadly at head office, that's more than likely. Lots of good people working there that are not upper management. Time will tell.

Plus, if they stopped this lean B.S., they can save a ton of cash too.

rumor has it that XPO wanted the Menlo business a couple of years ago......and Conway said, "No".

Now, what if Conway said, all or nothing?
And then XPO said, if you monkeys can get on the "Lean" train, we'll look at it in a couple of years.
And then, Conway started the "lean" program.......coincidentally, about 2 years ago.........

Just pure, stupid truckdriver banter and speculation.......but it does give one pause....

forget the link seen yesterday on a quick google search of news on this. XPO is going to attract bigger contracts. which only means, cheap freight temporary while we figure it out later. with man power:biggrin_2554:
