Where or how do you find intermodal loads? Do you have regular customers or do you use a broker? Do you know any intermodal brokers?

I do not lease to anyone; I have "contracts". There are many local Freight Forwarders and Brokers, I seek them and win over their business with my prices and customer service. I am extremely over-the-top with providing excellent services, professionalism, and having a down-to-earth relationship with my customers. I am also on a few load boards, so, when folks seek work in my area, they call me. I literally get phone calls and new business almost every single day, on top of all the dedicated customers I've already had for years.

I don't wanna shoot myself in the foot by giving local competition information on my customers so they will potentially leave me (lol), but, I'm happy to have a private conversation and recommend some folks who could probably earn you lots of money in this area.

Thanks for the info Cdiy. I'm on my way to getting started in the business but would like to expand beyond a single truck o/o.

It's $17 an hour after being in the rail yard for over an hour for JB intermodal drivers in Harrisburg

Sure what do you want to know?

Mileage pay starts off at $.36 per mile and goes up to $.46 per mile. You get a $.02 per mile increase every year till you reach the max $.46 if you don't work weekends. If you work weekends you get paid an extra $.02 per mile so max pay for someone who works weekends is $.48 per mile

    Drop and Hook is $28

    Tonu is $28

    Live load/unload is $43

Chassis Move, Crosstown and Equipment moves are $10

Hourly pay is $17 that goes for training, breakdown, yard check, rail delay etc.

Detention Pay starts after being at the customer for 1.5 hours and is $17 for the first hour and $25.50 for every hour after that. If you have a drop and hook load and you get delayed at the customer and you go past 1.5 hours being there your drop and hook pay instead becomes live load/unload pay and you collect detention pay as well. That is extremely rare and I've only had it happen to me once and I've been working here since October 2012.

To give you an idea of what someone makes I'll list what I make

I usually gross between $1,200 to a little over $1,300 a week and that's with me working 5 days a week and less then 60 hours per week usually right at 55 hours a week. I could make more if I worked 14 hour days everyday or if I worked a sixth day but I just don't anymore not that I couldn't I just choose not to. What I listed is how much you can expect split seating with someone with you being there for almost 3 years like me. I even have a horrible start time of 1600 which is rush hour in Harrisburg so I have to deal with that first thing when I start my day.

Are you still with JB Hunt, in Harrisburg? I'm interested in looking trying to join JB Hunt, but I only have 7 months experience. Do you think I should stay where I am at and gain more experience, because I always heard that the rail yard was a different beast.
