it can be done zombi... it can be done...

I heard all the negatives prior to getting into trucking - but now at age 37
I have a home paid off - no bills and work 4 days a week making 80-90K...

it worked for me - you just have to find the right path - and do not feel obligated to stick with a low paying OTR crap company if a better choice and oppourtunity arise.

The biggest problem with trucking is the family..They pay for it the hard way... I was on the road when my first wife passed.

I don't like to see people in this business that have all their hopes and dreams smashed when they find out that it is not for them.. If you think you can do it then hit the road and play driver.. But if you find out that the truck driving is not for you. You can check it off as one thing you have tried and didn't like.

Trucking has been good for me. The only problem I see is that no company has kept up just the cost of living. All you have to do is look back about 40 years and see what they were making. I started at $.16 a mile about
$ 416 a week. Then I also got extra on each load I handled and that added $100 to my check. Now remember that was 40 years ago. Today a guy that makes $ 1200 a week is doing good.. Some make better but most make a lot less. Trucking has not been good to the drivers that have stuck it out... Our spendable income buys a lot less then it did 40 years ago.

Drivers that quit while they were ahead.. Besides most of us that have been in the industry can remember all the guys that quit. There is no problem in quitting trucking. It is not for everyone. I have a friend that only made one trip in a truck and spend a lot of money to go to school to get her CDL..
Now she is out a early. Most of the time is when the ICE and SNOW come they go. It is a very unnerving to feel and see that trailer start to slid around you.. Most of the new guys don't have the time in the seat to handle this problem...

like I said - life is what you make of it..

those negative about trucking would also be negative about selling shoes or working in bakery.

ones environment is only part of the complaint - you just can not saitisfy some.

sucess is 50% effort and 50% attitude.

    (maybe a bit of luck)

by staying upbeat and positive - and keeping my eyes open I am having a BLAST as a trucker.

and these results can be replicated.

The only way to find out if this is for you or not is doing it for a while. Don't get rid of your things and place so soon. Try trucking for 6 months or so and then decide. I started with a co. last April, now teaming because it's mandatory in this co. for 6 months. So far I'm as happy as I can be. Despite of the hardships, the low pay, the fatigue, the stress, the dangers, the challenges, the discomfort, etc, etc, I LOVE LIFE ON THE ROAD!!!!! I really like to drive the truck and I get very proud and very happy when I see my improvements. I look forward to each day on the road. But that is me. I have gipsy blood, no family and this life style is perfect for me. Wish you all the best. :biggrin_255:

To attempt to answer the question, "is trucking the answer".

No. It's not the answer. Stopping jobs going overseas is the answer. Stopping our resources from being sold over seas is the answer. Using our own resources and making products here in America is the answer. Stopping all Chinese and Indian products and people from coming into our country is the answers. And if our government fails to protect Americans the answer is in the constitution, in the second paragraph. Read it, it's our DUTY......? Our duty and or our duty to protect ourselves from foreign invasion, etc., etc.:yes2557:

Addition: I guess I should put a big laugh in there we I go off! LOL
