14 hour clock rant.
I hate it..I hate it...I hate it!! But the government is smarter than me so what do I know?
So yesterday I approach Dallas at 1700 with 3 hours left on that #### clock. So since it would be royally stupid to drive through Dallas at that hour I shut it down at the yard...no big deal I can just start at 0300 and roll right through right??
Well here's the thing. I COULD do that....drive the 180 miles to my drop and be out of there by say 0700....but thing is my next load picks up at 1300 and it's a live load. So sure I can get there by 0830 and maybe somebody will be nice enough to load me early....but odds are I'm going to wait till my appointment and tick tick tick goes the clock.....so now I've sat around for say 6 hours and as I leave at 1500 I now only have 2 hours to drive because I've "worked" to hard and now I'm tired.
Or.....option 2.
I can leave at 0600 and which puts me on schedule to arrive at 0900 say...but I'm in Dallas so let's say 1000 and even if I lose an hour doing my drop in still going to make my 90 minute deadhead in time for my 1300 appointment.
So I get to the receiver at 10:45!! Encounter the slowest guard in the history of the world and don't get out till noon...so now I'm late....at least they put me right in the door and I'm leaving now....just in time to get back to Dallas....for rush hour.....sigh
I'll get off my soapbox nowchopper103in, TruckDuo, Rocks and 3 others Thank this. -
Usually that's followed by, "Imma slap you the next time I see you!"
Never can resist. They fall for it every time!
Alright so, turned out I have a moment or two. Posted last week that I have a trainee for this account. Not teaching him to drive, just showing him the account.
Tomorrow I do mead west again (ugh...) and just show him the general stuff to make sure he knows his stuff.
Got a phone call Tuesday, detailing what my run for the next day would be. Goes a little something like this.....
Me: I can't make that run. I'd be shutting down too late.
Dsp: Your trainee has a cdl just like you do right?
Me: ..........I would hope so.
Dsp: And he's got 8 months driving experience?
Me: Where are you going with this?
Dsp: Two drivers, one truck.
Me: ...I had to show him the liftgate today, we've both been active.
Dsp: I know. So I suggest one of you shut down and get some sleep.
Me: Um...I didn't sign up with covenant and both our 6 months are long up anyways.
Dsp: Funny guy.
Me: I try.
Dsp: ...I'm serious. Run it like you're teaming.
Me: Is this going to last all week?
Dsp: Maybe. Figured you'd like some help paying for the cruise you just asked off for.
She's not wrong. Turns out he leaves me tomorrow. I haven't minded at all, he's a little heavy on the brakes in my opinion but not a bad driver at all.
Anyways. It should be a decent week for miles. Was actually hoping I'd have him until the end of the week. I could've broken 4K miles if I had the right runs. -
I did a favor run last month. I lost about $2000. Went up to Ontario with a 4 hole. Other driver loaded it a tad heavy.
TruckDuo Thanks this. -
something to plug into your cell, huh? hmmmm....
No madam.... sorry but I don't...
And she walked to truck next to me... didn't see her knocking... the driver inside opened the door and she walked right in... And I went back to bed...
Thank you Mr. FatDaddy, for the info...And if I hear knocks on my door tonight, I will just ignore....

Rocks called me about that but I suggested that @FatDaddy would probably know more Houston hiding spots than I do.

So I got the living #### scared out of me. Decided to take the leasurely route to Conneutt, OH and run NY5 to US20 and run the free road to PA.
NY5 is a nice drive down the coast but when I approached the intersection of US20 and NY5, I see a sign that says 12'-10". I was like WTF???? NY5 is an STAA route and no mention of a 12'-10" clearance was listed for that road near Irving. So I approached the bridge and came to a stop. I saw a sign on the right side and figured it must be measured from the shoulder. I drove slowly under the center of the bridge, which had about 7-8 inches of clearance. There were two bridges and I cleared both. I was shaking so I stopped briefly at the Seneca One Stop.
As I gathered myself, a truck that had the entire dash covered with clutter and the passenger seat equally stacked parked. I couldn't believe someone could drive like that.TruckDuo, Rocks, Vilhiem and 1 other person Thank this. -
