max legal miles

i used to run from Seekonk, MA, down to Richmond, VA, 3 times a week, at or about 3,300 mile weekly. occasionally, i'd get an extra run in if everything lined up perfectly at both ends, meaning the city boys getting the loads picked up.

that would then be a week of about 4,400.........all on paper logs.

traffic, weather, everything being in line as far as the freight being ready and waiting for me (and my former co-workers), so it can be done.

by the way, we had day cabs, and the company put us into a motel when we got to Richmond. then some times, we'd have to go to Louisville, then back to Richmond, or from Louisville, back to Mass.

 

Best week was ~4400 miles -- in a 65mph truck on elogs. Laredo to Quebec to Calexico (actual trip was 5,000+ miles, but 4,400 were done in 7 days).


(load was assigned 12/9 but it didn't cross from Nuevo Laredo until 12/10)

Drive at night (almost no traffic), do your PTIs when you fuel (again at night when there is no line) and run 8/2 splits so you can drive nearly 14 hours/day... It also helps if you run some of that in Canada where you are allowed to drive 13 hours straight.


I bet @joseph1135 has done even better (though his truck goes 68?).

 

I suppose every shipper, receiver is different. Or is everything in your world black and white?

For those of you who don't know, that's the difference between a Trucker and a Driver. Same thing? Not hardly. There's not 1 big difference, but a million little differences. 4400 miles on elogs in 1 weeks time.

"Oh, but he can't do it every week." And Michael Jordan didn't make a basket with every shot. For that week he ran consistently for days on end. "Through the window, under the bleachers, over the rafter, nothing but net." You do trip planning, he does trip strategy.

Here's the magic answer, boys and girls. Only show what you need to show, match what you need to match, and make the rest look like you're minding your business. I averaged 14-15,000 miles a month for years and still don't have any log tickets.

 

Keep the door closed, run like hell and don't look back. 4200 is easily achievable, if you wanna. Too many steering wheel holders say "Can't be done!!!" Bull. You can do it in a 62 mph truck if you're crafty enough.

There's no reason to burn that 70 up with liberal use of "On-Duty, Not Driving". If you're on E-Logs, you have the advantage (yes, I said that) of everything you do being down to the minute. Who takes more than 9-10 minutes to fuel? Do you actually do a 15 minute PTI? Of course you don't. 15-30 minutes to check in at a shipper/reciever? Are you insane? Every minute you are wasting with "On Duty, Not Driving", you're taking right out of your drive time and ultimately your paycheck.

 

Back in the Late 90's I was in a Test Fleet for my Last Carrier. We had Ungoverned Trucks aka we could run the Speed Limit and had the Ponies to Climb the hills loaded. Mine was set at 665HP and 2250 of Torque so it had a Set of Balls in it. We did not have the Reset back then Testers ran all D&H if possible paper logs and a normal week for us was a Trip to CA and Back to IL in just over 6 Days total time. 3 out and 3 Back. We cranked out 4100 miles a week or better sometimes closer to 4500 miles a week if we had to go to the PNW. A normal Month for me was in the area of 16K a month if not more. Highest Miles I ran and got paid for all with Legal logging was over 17K miles. We had Teams in the company that cranked out 30K a month if not more.
