My uncle bought a truck in CO. When bobtailing back, at the scales they told him you cant do the speed limit on I70 through the mountains in a truck. He told them "I'm bobtailing, you Moron! Of course I can go that fast" they didn't like it, but prove I'm speeding, and where.

If you were earning what you should be, you wouldn't feel the need to run 4,000 miles a week. There is nothing wrong with running 3800 miles once in a while. Guys that have to do it week in and week out aren't getting paid right.

That goes double for owner operators. A good number of guys don't know their ### from thier elbow but know for sure they don't like being told what to do. They go lease a truck and work for $1.15 a mile. Things look good till the miles aren't there.

I run about 2400 miles a week anything more is gravy for me. At 58 cents per mile you really don't need to work like a slave.

If I made a bigger CPM, I would run even harder than I do now. It's all about the money for me.

When employed by H&W Trucking I had a 1987 KW Cabover, 365 cummins / 9 spd. We pulled 48-102 spreads hauling CSX RR freight, Glass from AFG in Bridgeport, WV. Loads into the coal mines, just to name a few. We had paper logs and ran 2800-3200 miles per week with no problem, but we drove governed at 68 mph. I only had one call out on my logs, and with H&W you had to be correct on the logs, they did not want any problems with the DOT or otherwise. That 365 was neutered on a hill, but a pair of vise grips in the frame rail and it out pulled my coworkers. Some here will know exactly what that means.

It's all about the money for most of the drivers. They drive because otherwise they would be washing dishes, working at Home Depot, making sandwiches or something else along these lines.

They work like slaves because they took what they can get. I don't blame them. I blame the industry for not being more selective or paying better. This would bring in a more intelligent group to draw from.
