Talbert used to build their trailers with 8" outer beams (I think I will measure tomorrow it's still setting in the weeds) I pulled two of the that way. The outer beam was C-channel instead of an I beam, we welded a strip of steel underneath the length of the trailer. That was perfect for hooking your ratchet straps when tying down stuff. When we got our Etnyres they had full depth I beam side rails, one of our drivers had some plastic pipe on crossed a railroad grade that was kinda steep and sheared every strap off dumping the pipe in the road. I miss the short side rails that trailer was every bit as tough as my newer one.

 

They raised it to 50? I haven't been to Michigan since January last year. Watch out for the bears, Big Ron.

 

And they are cracking down on it. As the officer said to our truck as he pulled his permit "It's says 50 not 53". Truck sat 4 days waiting on a new permit.

 

personally I think it is dangerous with all other traffic running 70 but im just a truck driver not an elected official. 2 yrs ago I got stopped on 66 north of Sturgis mi. I was doing 45 like I thought I was allowed (that's what I get for not reading the permit like I should of) he was all gun ho about reading me the riot act. when he was done I just looked at him and calmly said that was the dumbest and dangerous thing I ever seen. only ended up being a $60 ticket for violating conditions of permit. could of been worse. he could of made me buy another permit and fined me all kinda ways. I drove 35 the rest of the 45 miles to job wincing everytime a dumb four wheeler past me and dang near would hit an oncoming car. but I did my 35mph!

 

Picked up and delivered this pug mill today. Not really big but was 12'6" wide. Oh, and the spring brakes did not work. The problem, notice no landing gear? Well I got under it and it started moving so I had to gun it or it would have slipped off the truck and missed the blocks it was sitting on when it did. That would not have been good. Only had 1/2" to spare before my drives would have stopped at the blocks the pug mill was sitting on.

Speed limit for OSOW is 45 on the interstate. It takes 2 days to go from the bottom to the top and then all the way west across US2. And they will pull you over to dot you before you get to the Mackinac Bridge. 19 below and this cop wants to crawl underneath my truck. Bunch of bankrupt bastiches.

 

must be for a certain weight group then. I know at 145000lbs it is 50mph on the big road and 35 on two lane for me.
