Yeah, I've been hearing the radio ads and DOT is pushing hard for transfer drivers right now. The ultimate goal is to not have to sub out our own freight.
As a transfer driver you will most likely be out 5 and home 2. I do delivery and have a set route for half the week, sometimes I get two full off, sometimes only the 34. But I get home in the middle of the week too.
DOT has set turn locations where you meet other trucks and swap freight, or you will go to other DC's depending on length of the run. The teams handle most of the longer range transfers.
You'll probably do turns in Wells Nv, Moriarty Nm, Kingman AZ, Grand Island NE, Burley Idaho DC...those are the most common ones for solo.

Do they have a rider policy? Not stated on their website.

After you have been there 6 months you can take immediate family. Age 8-11 on transfers only, no deliveries or pick ups. Age 12 and up on anything.

Anyone have info about their Williamsport Maryland DC? Its the closest one for me. I am interested in their "transfer" position. Is that position as it sounds? You basically do pick ups at customers and take that load back to the DC and also do dc to dc runs? If so, that sounds too easy. Do you have to live near the dc because I am about 200 miles from there? Would I be able to take the truck home? Also do they allow inverters, the ones you have to hard wire to the battery? One last question, do they do orientation at all locations or just one? Thanks in advance for the reply.

Transfer drivers do no-touch deliveries, pick ups and move freight between company DC's and swap with other DOT trucks at specified locations.
Typically you have to live within 100 miles of a DC or yard. Trucks are parked at work during your time off. Inverters are installed by the company and all 2015 or newer are coming with them installed from the factory.
Orientation is held at the DC you are hired to work from. Meals are paid throughout training.
