Wassup fellow drivers! Here's the situation...I've been trying to find a good local position somewhere near northwest Indiana or south Chicago. I got a call from Schneider bulk tanker division out of Gary, In and they're pretty much ready to bring me on. However I wanna make sure I'm picking the right company. I've got over 4 years experience otr and I'm ready to be home every night. Schneider says I can make "up to" 52k a year, working 10-12 hours a day, but I know better than to believe what a company says just to get me in the door. Anyone have any other suggestion or should I just take what's being offered?

    Give triangle transport a call
Their an affiliate of QC they will train you and you'll make a lot more money than scheinder.
That who got me into tanking

I think you'll prolly have to run yer nutz off to make 50k local at SNBC. With 4 years exp, there's probably much better options as far as 3pl goes.

Also, check out the local chem companies with their own fleets, lots of those in that area. Nalco, Univar, Arkema to name a few. Most are excellent hourly pay/bennies, with 'regular job' work schedules (8 hrs/day, OT after 8/40, pd. holidays, etc)

Will look into those, 8 hr work days sound a lot more humane. Where's the best place to spot more companies like these?

Just look in the job ads, IL probably has an unemployment site that pulls ads from monster, career builder etc. Then use 'tanker' as a search word, that'll usually pull all the tanker listings

Also, go direct to the company sites and look at their careers sections. I just looked at univar.com and they have a driver spot posted for Chicago

I'm starting at QC next week, out of Lansing. I didn't realize this was the company you mentioned until I read the card he gave me that said triangle transport at the top. After reading your thread, I felt good about this one.

Going down to louisville for orientation on Monday. Starting out at $18/hr. I will probably start a thread posting my experience either today or tomorrow.
