I would recommend System Transport. They are flatbed but have three divisions: flatbed, reefer, and a specialty division. They are based out of Spokane, Wa, but they have yards all over the states. I got officially hired in in august and was upgraded to my own truck at the very end of September. They have a 1 week orientation that is completely paid for plus you get a check at the end of your orientation. You are out with a trainer for around 5weeks depending on how fast you learn and how confident you and your trainer are on your abilities. So far I have been very happy with this company and hear very few complaints. Hometime depends on where you live. I am from Corpus Christi, TX so I had trouble finding anyone to hire me being south of I-10, that being said I'm guaranteed to be home every other weekend if I choose and can stay out as long as I want. I am currently on the Texas regional fleet. Their pay is one of the best I could find. All this being said I spent two weeks researching where to go. If you have any questions feel free to email me and I'll try to answer them. Shane.schroth@gmail

Melton is a good company to work for, even though I left because of one bad egg, I would recommend them any day.

Anyone who pays .31-.34 shouldn't be in business, in 2011 I was starting at .42 and made 12-1500 a week at 2600-3200 mIles per week with benefits and on elogs, it's all about time management and not being a truck stop cowboy

I work for ACME, running to oil rigs, and frequently load at customers where Waggoners is also loading and talked with several of their drivers. The number one complaint is they use those stupid side boards to completely contain the freight. This adds at least 30-40 minutes per load or unload just to get the boards off, you can't see the freight or how the straps or chains are riding in relation to the freight when the boards are up, etc. etc.

My overall impression is that because a few drivers lost some freight from improperly secured loads some idiot in corporate decided they should install sideboards on the trailers. That, and with the number of new drivers that seem to be in training I'm under the impression that this is like the Swift of flat bedding.

For this reason I personally will never pull for Waggoners. In a typical week I figure I'm losing at least 10 hours dealing with those side boards and NEVER able to see my load or check the tension on my straps without moving a sideboard out of the way.

While you are with the trainer, is the trainer in the jump seat while you are driving or is it run as a team?

Do they have driver facing cameras in the trucks? Some companies are falling out of favor because of the driver facing cameras. I'd rather put up with sideboards than cameras. I'm trying to keep up with the names of companies that hire new cdl grads and don't have cameras.

    Allenmichael27 and farmboy73 Thank this.
