"I spent most of my adult life working with them." I'll be 68 in Dec. I spent nearly 30 years in different capacities with engines, Detroits mainly.
Detroits DON'T HAVE compression releases. -
Setup only has one filter.... it does not have two. It looks as if the feeed and return both go up to the top front of engine from the tank directly. Looks to have the filter that is on it after the pump instead of before it

So do i crack loose that filter and pressurize it thru the vent until fuel comes out if top of filter?? Then close it up and try to start it while still presssurizing thru the vent? Let say it does have air in line after it starts is it like the old ntc cummins were it will clear itself up byitself?
-
Crack fitting on discharge side of filter while running. Just crack it ever so slightly and the faster the engine turns the more fuel will "spray" (getting all over everything everywhere).... it will run really rough until most of the air is gone, then tighten the line. It will still be running rough until ALL the air is gone. It will take what seems like a long time but without a hand priming pump I don't know of any other way than pressurizing the tanks. No matter which method is used it will run rough and have to be kept running until it clears itself...MACK E-6 Thanks this. -

You mean crack fitting on the filter head itself? I noticed the filter head had like two outs and i think one in?
When you say while running? You mean while its running with the ether, ??? -
Pressurize tank.
Crack line at pump. When you get fuel there tighten it.
Crack line at filter inlet. When you get fuel there tighten it.
Crack line at filter outlet. When you get fuel there tighten it.
Start cranking engine over keeping pressure on tank until engine will run.
None of the steps are instantaneous. Each step takes a little time.
You don't need a lot of pressure at the tank so much as constant pressure.
Continuing to use ether is going to hurt the engine. All that knocking you hear is real. -

It's the easiest method there is. Have a line in your supply and a line to the filter inlet and start pumping. Pump until it gets kinda hard and then start cranking the engine. Keep pumping til it'll run.
Ebay isn't the only source I just used it to show you a picture and approximate cost. -
Thank you for your insight here. I found it interesting reading.
Fratsit and goin2fast10 Thank this.
