Detention is not a normal part of the contract. I requested layover pay.
Agent said he requested it but doubted it will come. Especially after the telephone blow ups on the previous loads. Thing is; the shipper knew about the 08:00 delivery time just no one told me when I agreed to the load over the phone. And I did not catch it when I signed the bills on the north end.
Landstar is a bit seat of the pants on hold ups/detention. You go under the assumption that everyone is going to do the job as contracted. I go under the premise of "there will not be a second time". Most of the Agents (internal brokers/dispatchers) if you ask them will let you know if detention time has been a concern in the past. Beyond that it is be defensive on the loads you choose: Avoid Food service places, Major player D.C.s, and other known bad players. If you take a load with one of those places plan accordingly and get the aggravation money in the form of a higher rate.
I have seen loads with added in layover/holding time listed on rate sheet (round trip and multi-stops).
Have one place (and a couple of others listed on the board) that flat out tell you to drop your trailer the night before and then come get it in the morning..... I'm good with this 'cause they tell me want they need/want and let me make the decision if I want to do it up front.

Now sometimes you get a cool Agent.
The load where I did the 200 mile/6 hour out of route around the Grapevine... Got a call from the agent wanting to know out of route miles and how much extra time I put on the load. She called back later and let me know that her client pushed extra money onto the load to cover the miles and as a performance bonus for just getting it done. -

CA58 may reopen tonight. CA DOT no longer shows closed...
Interesting to throw some numbers @ the clearing.

It seems to me more a broker issue than a delivery customer issue. Drop communicated to broker. Broker did not communicate back up the line.Rocks, TruckDuo and double yellow Thank this. -

Even after the bad pun. Most likely not enough gold to pay to haul the mud or extract the gold.
Wouldn't there be a bunch of mines near Tulare lake if there was much gold?TruckDuo and double yellow Thank this. -
Ended up being there 5.5hrs. That jerk in the daycab could have cut that by 1:20 if he'd just done the right thing. I have before in situations like that. It's just the right thing to do. This moron ignored us both when we walked over to ask him if he'd unhook so we could get by. Just sat there staring straight ahead in the seat. Didn't even roll his window down or acknowledge anyone existed on the planet but him. He knew #### well what we wanted.
So, out of there and over to Eau Claire then back to Arcadia and grab one back to NC. Decided to just call it a day at the rest area on 94 outside black river falls. 12:30 on the clock and only 330 to show for the day and time and parking options getting thin so I'll just get up in the morning and try again.
Started getting stuff together for dinner and call the wife for our nightly call and my mac and cheese goes boom 30 seconds into cooking. Exploded in a cheesy noodle mess all over the inside of my microwave. Just hasn't been my day lol I wanted that mac and cheese. -
